confused odd problem with estimated time for completion

Hello all,

I have 5 computers that are exactly the same (same vendor, same model, same cpu, same OS, same version of BOINC). They all use the same device settings from WCG. 4 of the 5 computers will show about 2 hours for estimated completion for a task, which is what it takes. The fifth computer will show about 8 hours for completion, even though it only takes about 2 hours. This apparently affects how many jobs it queues up in the job cache, because this computer only queues up about 1/4 of the jobs as the other computers. I have rerun the cpu benchmarks, but that has not made any difference.

I am beating my head against the wall trying to figure out what might be different. Do any you readers have any ideas?

Mark

Have you rerun the BOINC benchmark from the BIONC manager again?

Re: odd problem with estimated time for completion

BIONC should adjust the estimates after it runs WUs a couple of days by itself, if it doesn't I would uninstall BOINC delete the BOINC folders, rename the computer and reinstall BOINC again. Make sure the computer is on the same profile as the other computers and see if that helps.

Re: odd problem with estimated time for completion

If Boinc on that system hasn't run those work-units for an amount of time, it may need to relearn the estimated time. You should see this estimate change after each WU is completed, until the estimated and the actual time meet.

They are on the same profile. I have done a reinstall (including the folders) and run for a couple of day. It did not seem to make any difference. I did not rename the computer. I was going to look for some uninstall software on the web. Maybe something is left in the registry. I will let it run for a few more days and see if it adjusts. It is just strange.

Re: odd problem with estimated time for completion

I let the cache empty, then reset the project from the projects tab of BOINC. That seems to have fixed the issue. All the new tasks have the correct estimated time for completion. I don't know why this is different than uninstalling BOINC and deleting the project directories. Maybe resetting tells the server to do something. In any event, it is now correct.
