Why isn’t there a public profile like with all the other projects?
----------------------------------------I'm referring to something like this: https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/show_user.php?userid=49625. Let me know. Thanks. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Luca at Dec 1, 2025 7:28:57 PM] |

I'm old and my memory is starting to fade, but here are a few clues:
Many years ago, IBM started hosting a volunteer computing service on a platform called United Devices. They would take research proposals from other organizations and if accepted, IBM would provide the hosting service to run the research project. Over time, BOINC became more widely accepted than United Devices, so IBM moved their server software (the part that communicates with BOINC on your host) from United Devices to BOINC. The client software (the part that you see when you look up WCG in your web browser) evolved off in a different direction, then was modified by IBM to have a more up-to-date appearance. Within the past few years, IBM decided to dump BOINC and no longer provide the hosting service to research organizations. Krembil was one of the main users of the BOINC hosting service at IBM. Krembil decided to take over the hosting service in order to still have access to the research capabilities that BOINC provided. So yes, there are several differences between what you see here and what you see on other pure BOINC projects. |
