BOINC agent not following saved settings

I have told my settings to NOT download any MCM1 tasks, yet no matter what I try it continues to keep getting them. It just does its own thing. I have told it to only use 25% of my CPU but it continues to go all-out (my 9800X3D temp goes way up with this), Workunit Cache Settings are set to only cache 0.1 days worth of units, and under Project Limits, the MCM1 is set to only 1 (lowest value) yet every time it communicates with the BOINC server, it pulls in 100+ MCM1 tasks. Why is it not honouring the settings?

Re: BOINC agent not following saved settings

In Device Profiles online, there is a setting for " If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project.". How is that set?

Re: BOINC agent not following saved settings

The profile settings are not working at this point, the settings you are trying to adjust are part of those settings.

Re: BOINC agent not following saved settings

It is unticked. It was mentioned that profile settings are broken. Makes sense as it is ignoring everything I have set.

Re: BOINC agent not following saved settings

You can get around the device profiles sync issue by setting your CPU usage and cache settings locally under Options-Computing preferences in the BOINC Manager.

- Use at most x% of the CPUs and at most x% of CPU time
- Store at least x.xx days and up to an additional x.xx days of work

Once the sync issue is resolved you can go back to using your device profile by clicking 'Use web prefs' at the top of the Options-Computing preferences window and clicking 'Update' on the Projects tab.

Clicking 'No new tasks' on the Projects tab will stop downloads entirely if that's what you want.

  • i5-7400 (Kaby Lake, 4C/4T) @ 3.0 GHz
  • i5-4590 (Haswell, 4C/4T) @ 3.3 GHz
  • i5-3330 (Ivy Bridge, 4C/4T) @ 3.0 GHz

Not quite. While I know I can set that for XX% of CPU usage, it still doesn't honour the MCM1 tasks being stopped. It still brings them it. I need the client to recognise this setting.

Re: BOINC agent not following saved settings

I'll look into the device profile issue today and see if I can get it working. It appears to be an auth issue between the message broker sidecars of the BOINC database and webserver.

Your response is a bit confusing.
What does 'it still doesn't honour the MCM1 tasks being stopped mean'?
Do you have stuck work in the queue?

I suspect you've set the MCM1 project limit to a high number (>= 16 for a 9800X3D). It's possible this setting is being stored in the client internally and when you update the value online it doesn't get synced so you keep using the original value.

Project limits can't be set locally unfortunately. I would expect using local cache settings overrides project limits but maybe it does not.
