Perhaps some users who have deliberately disabled alt_platform in their client could say whether they actually get any retries at present and, if so, has it respected the "64-bit only" constraint? There are certainly still enough retries available, with download errors and [too many] missed deadline tasks...

I have disabled the alt_platform, on my Windows 8.1 computer, and I almost never get any resends, perhaps once/week or even less often. However I did get one _2 at (2025-12-16 12:15:13 UTC), but sent only some 45 minutes after the 2 original tasks, (long before any of those 2 were crunched). My task was running the 64-bit windows app. The other 2 "real" Linux wingmen, were both running the 64-bit Linux app. All 3 now crunched, and "Pending Validation"

Actually the same goes for me, I have element <no_alt_platform> set to 1 in ~boinc/cc_config.xml and received only 1 retry for that device in the past two weeks:

Thank you for information on the retry situation, Grumpy Swede and Adri!

I find it interesting that the retry each of you did get seemed to be the result of an early boost to the Initial Replication for some reason or another (one almost instant, the other after 45 minutes). Perhaps that explains why they were matched as 64-bit, though it doesn't explain why the delayed one got paired with a genuinely "foreign" platform.

And as for that "unknown" O/S data, I've seen a few of those recently. I've looked at a small sample of recent ones and I've found tasks with both the O/S data fields "unknown" and others with "unknown" in one field and something recognisable (but wrong!) in the other field -- e.g. "T" for version or a shell error message for type!

I've not seen much to suggest that a client request would send "unknown" to the server, so I presume the "unknown" value (as provided by the API) is used if there's an empty tag in the request (or something else causes the server to not collect a value!)

Edit: Count has gone up from 39 to 56 so may be real.

We have not crossed paths with any in months. I hope to see them soon, but I really would like to see validation issues resolved. Maybe a few were sent, but I would expect to see more out there if they are sending beta work.

My contributions/badges in all projects have suddenly appeared doubled - credited with 100 years on Mapping Cancer Markers with a true total of 68 years, for example. Even old and finished projects within WCG are affected. How did this happen, & will it revert to the true values at some point? All changes are dated Dec 13 2025.

Re Beta MAM1 showing up in WUProp -- something similar happened back in late August 2025 and it was briefly discussed in a previous Project Status thread

As there had been no changes to the WCG Project statistics for Beta Testing since mid-May (nothing further being validated...) it wasn't possible to tell whether work was actually sent in to WCG at that point in time. On the assumption that it wasn't someone faking WUProp results, I suspect that was a case of a WUProp user whose machine had been offline for some time and hadn't reported in some (completed?) work.

Now this time round, it seems unlikely that new Beta work would be sent out unannounced, and (as before) we haven't yet seen anyone posting "Hey, I got MAM1 Beta jobs!". So it is probably effectively a ghost -- sorry about that...
