Re: WCG migration to a new environment finally complete

Adamj1992, you should be able to download up to 7 days worth of work. If you open the BOINC app, then select View->Advanced View. Then select Options->Computing Preferences. Then at the bottom of the Computing tab, you have the option of storing X days of work. I have mine set to 10 days but I've noticed that the max is 7 days. Doing so, you should be able to keep your computers working if WCG goes down for a day or so.

There are a couple of flaws with this procedure:

1) The WCG's normal work units (WU with _0 or _1) are due within FIVE (5) days.

2) RESENDS (WU with _2, _3 or higher) are due within THREE (3) days.

Failure to return WU's within the required time autogenerate the resends of additional WU's to other volunteers.

THEREFORE, I would recommend that no additional days beyond three (3) be specified . Otherwise your WU's are likely to be labeled as TOO LATE and get no credit.

I guess it depends on how fast is your computer. I have never had any on my units return TOO LATE while WCG was working correctly.

+1

I would suggest one (1) day of stored tasks but three (3) IF it is not a huge quantity of tasks. I would not recommend more than three (3) in any circumstance. That is just based on seeing how this (a few days of stored tasks, or a single day) helps WCG the most in the big picture.

One of the biggest problems that i am having now is a lot of work units i have done is pending validation with some of them over a month old.

I think that is a problem everyone is seeing. I have over 7000 Pending Verification. If I read the last update from them correctly, they will be attempting to clear the backlog this week. We'll see...
