how to run grid problems but keep my old screensaver?

I really like my old screensaver. How do I run grid problems when I am not using my computer, but have my old screensaver run then? Why do I have to have the grid screensaver display?

Thanks.

Hello jjcahill,
The screen saver that comes with the installation package is only necessary if you decide to run the grid in screen saver mode. Otherwise you can select any screen saver you want. I use 'blank' myself.

Re: how to run grid problems but keep my old screensaver?

Thank you mycrofth,

I guess I wanted to run the grid applications when I wasn't using my computer but have my old screensaver showing. I don't really want the grid application running when I am actively using my computer.

Hi jjcahill --

You might want to give a try at running the applications when you are active on the computer. I've been doing that from the start and am never really aware that it is running. Since it runs at "idle" priority, anything you are doing will run above it.

Best regards,

Re: how to run grid problems but keep my old screensaver?

If you have a workstation with lots of memory and a fast disk you may not notice grid applications running in the background. But if you have a slow disk (for example on many notebooks) or you have applications that do a lot of disk I/O then you'll see grid slowing you down on Windows, irrespective of whether you have a lot of memory.

Windows does an awful job of keeping low priority tasks from interfering with your work if disk I/O is a factor. I'd like to see this problem addressed. I think we'd see a lot more users and a lot fewer opting for screen-saver only mode (like me).
