Re: Not getting enough work

AgriFan,

Can you be a little more specific as to what you mean by:
"Increase your cache setting so the client asks for work more frequently".

Your 2-day cache setting is perfect.

However, I see a lot of resends where some volunteer(s) are running 5- or 6-day cache setting (based on the WU's [Work Unit's] send time and reporting time) and I find it creates extra work for the system. And I would be afraid that your recommendation would be misinterpreted and a too large a cache setting would be created.

That's why I suggested that you be more specific.

Happy Crunching!

Also, to increase the frequency of work requests you need to reduce the “additional “ cache - so, for example, keep at least 1 day and keep an additional 0.01 days will ask for work far more often than keep at least 0.5 days and keep a additional 0.51 days.

And make sure, that not all tasks end at the same time. There should be at least 2-3 minutes between the tasks, best is even distribution. This resets BOINC's backoff interval.

All of my clients run 24/7 so a 2-day cache works for me. The highest I've ever gone is 3-4 days before a planned outage.

Re: Not getting enough work

liturgist - what projects are you choosing?
MCM usually sends out enough work. ARP is a large file and is on limited release at the moment.

Re: Not getting enough work

I chose OpenPandemics, but it has nor presented work for a long time.

Now, I get mostly Mapping Cancer Markers and occasionally Africa Rainfall Project. I also went elsewhere and added DENS@home, but have never seen any work from it.

Re: Not getting enough work

Please restart your client and post the startup lines of your Event Log which can be found under the Tools dropdown menu (or Ctrl+Shift+E).
This would be helpful for us to troubleshoot why you're not getting enough work for your machine.

OpenPandemics does not have any work at this time. MCM and ARP are the only active projects right now.
