lonooong beta test tasks

I'm getting some beta test tasks that are 297 and 572 days long!! is this for real? do you really need the data from the beta ( BLAHHH) or can I abort them and get back to real work?

Re: lonooong beta test tasks

Did you just received these? If so, what is the name of the task and the numbers associated with the name? If the percentage is not changing for how much has completed, then I would suggest aborting them.

Re: lonooong beta test tasks

I suspect they are from the original release as I had some long running tasks as well.

BUT, I suggest displaying the Event Log and also selecting Checkpoint_debug.
[From the BOINC Manager window, select: Options -> Event Log Options -> Diagnostic Log flags window: Checkpoint_debug]

I monitored my long running beta units and aborted the task if there was not at least ONE checkpoint for that beta task within the last 24 hours. Let us know what you find.

Most all of the computers are processing BOINC 24/7

Happy Crunching!
ETA: I just discovered that if the Replication for that work unit is zero (0) then the task will not be validated.

Re: lonooong beta test tasks

BETA_BETA30_9800019_0151_1 and BETA_BETA30_9800015_0731_1

I set the flag, but looking at the event log I see repeated for hours:
[error] ACTIVE_TASK::start(): can't create memory-mapped file:shmget() failed

looks like a corrupted work unit. I'm going to abort them. One has a remaining time of 402 days with 2 days and some hours of work done already.

Re: lonooong beta test tasks

I'm going to abort them.
I think that's completely fine, testing of version 7.04 is basically completed, next step is version 7.05.

I had a similar problem - now aborted.
