I always had an impression that time spent on crunching beta tasks is always counted towards Beta badge, no matter what result of crunching.
----------------------------------------During recent wave of Beta tasks some of my machines spend quite significant amount of time crunching MAM beta tasks, which ultimately errored out. The tasks are now disappeared from task list and my total time spent on Beta, visible on my WCG profile is still the same like before this beta campaign. Am I missing something or beta rules are now different? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by katoda at May 12, 2025 1:19:08 PM] |

This is the first beta that Krembil has run, so it is a beta beta. Commenting is useful, as they figure it out.

If I remember correctly, we used to get credit and hours even for failed Beta tasks. I could be wrong though, of course

If I remember correctly, we used to get credit and hours even for failed Beta tasks. I could be wrong though, of course That is currently wishful thinking, at best.I had a Beta WU returned on 5/2 (a _2), as the first valid one, four subsequent WUs ended just like the _0 and _1 in error, and two more WUs (_7 and _8) were returned on 5/8 and 5/11 respectively and today, all three successful returned WUs where labeled "TOO LATE" with neither credit for runtime nor points... https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/706400067 Three more successful returned Beta WUs are still marked "Validation Pending", with little hope to get at least the runtime credited... I rather suspect that everything to do with Beta Testing got turned off for the duration of the BOINC Marathon Sprint.
I've got a small number of tasks that have been awaiting validation since 2025-05-06 -- they are all from a batch that was being allowed to issue retries (and all of them have two other results pending!) so there's no real reason they shouldn't validate eventually. As for "Too Late" -- I had been watching the long-running tasks I had, and if I saw that one was for a WU that had retries suppressed and my wingman had already failed or aborted, I would abort mine because those long-running tasks were interfering with getting other work from WCG! (To me the credit's irrelevant.) If the wingman was still In Progress I'd let mine run in case the wingman was on a badge hunt :-) -- WCG did say they'd keep extending the limits on the long runners -- however, I'd usually end up being able to abort the task anyway as the wingman would eventually fail or abort! As Unixchick said, it is their first Beta, so I'm willing to cut them some slack, especially given the Marathon and the recurring (albeit less common now) service interruptions... Cheers - Al. |
