Staying logged in on Website

Hi Guys,

I am never able to stay logged in at this website everytime I come back to it the day after I have to log back in. Does the site offer this facility of staying logged in???

I manage to stay logged in on all my other sites that require a log in but I don't know if this one uses cookies or not

Re: Staying logged in on Website

The World Community Grid does not offer this ability as it does not use cookies. I have read in the forums that some users are able to accomplish this through facilities within the Firefox browser. Click here to see a discussion about it.

Best regards,

Looks like I will have to put up with the annoying task of logging in at the moment.

One final question if WCG doesn't use cookies why does it say the following on the sign in page??

If you are having problems signing in, or staying signed in, please make sure you have cookies enabled on your browser. confused confused

Re: Staying logged in on Website

No one has ever found a persistent cookie, that I have heard of. But during a session, I do not have to sign in repeatedly as I navigate from public to private parts of the website, so there has to be a temporary session marker.

Re: Staying logged in on Website

A simple solution is to click on MY GRID on the top menu
Then click on FORUMS and you will find that you are still logged in

But to effectively click on MY GRID, you have to log in if you haven't already done so...

Halifax--lad,

We utilize session cookies so you will see cookies from World Community Grid if you look at browsers cookie cache after logging in (we also use them to put your member name, points and current rank at the top of the screen). However, we do not authenticate users based upon a cookie value.

We decided that the security benefits of not storing a persistent cookies outweighed the easy of use benefit of having a persistent cookie.

Re: Staying logged in on Website

Why not have the option then to stay logged in if the user wishes that to happen??

This is what Graham was talking about when he posted

From time to time, everybody gets bumped off the board when something happens behind the scenes. But if your session simply expires so that you find that you are no longer signed in, Graham's method quickly reestablishes the session without going through the password authentication.
