BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04

Three work units arrived this morning for the BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04 project. They are on my i7 running Windows 10. All three have run, one 01:37:54 4.450%, next one 01:43:37 5.190% and the last 01:43:31 5.470%.. The percentage complete is not increasing but the Remaining was increasing RAPIDLY, all showing 1d +. I've seen this error before on some earlier projects at this stage. I have suspended them for now, and no new tasks set.

Re: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04

If they are checkpointing at least once every 30 minutes or so I recommend to let them run (we seem to be out of MCM anyway). With around 5% every 1.5 hours they should complete in around 30 hours. To get better runtime estimates use this as app_config.xml (place it in WCG project directory):

<app_config>
<app>
<name>beta30</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
</app>
</app_config>

I had 5 Wus like that, they all completed succesfully, the first one is now validated.

Re: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04

Indeed, just like Link64 says, let them run, adrianxw! Even if they are needing five days to finish, let them run, and don't reboot! (See the informational tab 'Operational Status' at https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~juris/jlab/wcg.html.)

You will probably see that their deadlines have been extended to seven days; here's an example:

Result name Status Sent time Due / Return time CPUtime/Elapsed Claimed/Granted
BETA_BETA30_9800029_0555_2 In Progress 2025-04-27 18:33:14 2025-05-04 18:33:14 -/- -/-

Re: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04

It would be great if the deadlines for those two could be extended, me an my wingmen are stil crunching on them:

After 2 days and 16 hours both are at around 45%, checkpointing nicely every 10-15 minutes. 3 days and few hours left.

Seems they decided to abort those:

Re: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04

Two of my BETA-tasks are on their way to finish in uhm … 40 hours, after running for 3 days now. So they will finish within a total of five days.

Adding 2 times five days to my BETA-runtime towards a one year BETA-badge would be very nice.
But what's the use of continuing to run these two if there isn't a wingman anymore to validate against (replication=0), and they get flagged as 'Too Late' (too late to validate)? Then their runtime will not count, considering quorum=2, does it?

Re: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04

I seem to recall a message indicating that the powers that be would be monitoring the estimated end time and adjusting the "too late" time accordingly (or words to that effect) to extend THAT end time to accommodate the long running MAM WU's.

Edited to add - See Information in Operational Status section of April 26's notes:
"https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~juris/jlab/wcg.html
For those who continue to run these long running workunits, we will monitor those that remain outstanding and continue to extend deadlines.

edit to correct typo and then add note about long running WU's.

Re: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04

I, obviously, restarted the three wu's as soon as I could, all are running. They will not finish before the shown deadline, but fair enough, that is in hand. What I can see is that one of the units is running MUCH faster than the other two, it is showing 09:26:09 remaining, the other two are still in the 1d+ . It is a 4GHz i7, so crunching them quickly.

Re: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers 7.04

The three tasks are all finished now. The first to finish was within the short deadline and credited normally. The second finished but has the status "Too Late" and is not credited. The third finished normally and is credited, well after the deadline.
