In another thread it is stated that you have to wait for 3 results for the same WU to be returned and verfified before credit can be given as THIS IS A BOINC requirement.
It is NOT a BOINC requirement but a PROJECT requirement. A Few of the BOINC project use this but others like Rosetta and Climate do not, they use only one result (like your 'normal' windows) and credit is given immediately. Why can you not also do this and revert back to the way your 'normal' version works? |

Hello Scribe,
I forget just where it is in the BOINC documentation, but there are 4 methods pre-programmed so that a project can select 1 of the 4 methods without any special coding. These require 1, 2, 3 or 4 results. In addition, a project can insert its own validation routine (normally I would expect that to only be done for 1 result). So we (World Community Grid) can change the BOINC validation requirements easily to meet the specifications of the project scientists. However, there has been no change (as far as I know) in the validation performed on the Human Proteome Folding Project work units. The change is in the scores, which BOINC only awards after a work unit is validated instead of at the time of receipt. I have no idea yet which validation method FAAH units will get. mycrofth |

In that case why do you have to wait for 3 results before the validation process? Why not do it on one as Rosetta does then we do not sometimes have to wait days before we get a result posted. I have been waiting well over 48 hours for one to be posted.....

mycrofth, the method that is used to verify Fight AIDS @ Home results is similar in the method that is used for HPF results. This means that multiple machines must return the same results for the dockings that occur in that workunit.
Hope this helps. |

Actually, we are waiting for 4 identical results - the most rigorous method. Personally I think that 3 would do the trick, but we will finish the last little bit to the same standard that has been adhered to all through the project.
Rosetta@home is a research project that is using the returned data 2 different ways. First, they are mapping out the whole range with many trials, using human intuition on the resulting mass plots to guide their algorithmic development. An occasional erroneous outlier should not make any difference. Labs deal with spurious data points all the time. Secondly, they select the result with the lowest energy (or a small set of such results) and rerun the computations on their own computers to verify it. This is the smart, efficient way to do it, for their purposes. But if they start running jobs submitted to them on their Robetta server from other universities, I strongly suspect they will require multiple-result validation for those jobs. Anyway, the people who decide how much validation is required are the project scientists, not us. But I would expect that Viktors can give them whole pages on the error rates we experience. With luck, Scripps will be satisfied with a smaller quorum than 4. |

I have calculated some WUs and send it back, but I cant see anything in stats since some days. Can you tell me if they are arrived and how long will this take, no errors here so far? The same problem with my team, can`t see anything in boinc, its empty!

We have not programmed the server with the BOINC results page yet. The XML Team stats will be another job. Right now, I have no idea when it will be done. I do know that it is a high priority. We are computing the scores for individuals, but we are still moving FAAH over to BOINC and getting another project ready and setting up the website to run in French.
It's a rush-rush world, mycrofth |

After some delay, I see that some of my first BOINC WUs on Windows are beginning to be credited to my personal statistics. Hopefully the scientists can relax the redundancy requirement after gaining experience but as everyone knows, it is very important that the results be correct.
----------------------------------------I think the redundancy requirements for the UD agent are the same as for th BOINC, it is just that you are given credit for the WUs the UD agent completes as soon as it is completed which is not the case for the BOINC agent. Still, the main objective is to get the work done. The keeping score part is just for fun. Kind Regards to all. |
