Is this possible? A 9 day MCM

I looked at my machines and on one I saw an MCM WU with an estimated time of 9 days. I have never seen a WCG WU with that kind of time. Everything else on that machine is about 4 hours. It will never finish before March 01.

How do you get the idea of an 9 day deadline?
February 23rd to March 1st is 6 days.
You do know that the month of February has only 28 days, don't you?

CPU time 00:37:26
Elapsed time 1d 06:47:54

This looks like the problem.

For some reason there's only been about 37.5 minutes CPU time (computing time) since it started. It might be looping, or just stuck in progress for reasons I don't know. You could exit BOINC and restart if you haven't done that and see if more normal progress is made after the restart. Or you could abort it.

Hi Ralf/TPCBF, I think BobbyB is referring to the estimated time, rather than the deadline;
Estimated time remaining 9d 18:02:31

Well, maybe. But I see this at times on my hosts as well. Pretty much all of them are actively used computers (some more, some less) and this sometimes seems to be the case when the computer is heavily used and the default percentage of CPU power to use on the client is low. Around here, AutoCAD or Revit as well as some of the Adobe applications (InDesign, Photoshop), that constantly are "phoning home" seem to screw with the ratio of CPU Time to Elapsed Time. Closing the apps and/or increasing the CPU use percentage helps in most of those cases.
And there are some cases where people are running too many BOINC tasks on some of the newer CPUs that have a mix of "high power" cores and "power saving" cores. Having WUs running on one of the later can cause this as well.

Ralf

PS: And I just realized I forgot a smiley on my original reply... wink

If non of the conditions in Ralph's post apply, I would simply reboot the machine as that will reset the machine and then it should run normally. If it doesn't at that point, I would just abort it.
Edit: Before I would reboot, I would suspend all the BOINC jobs and then reboot. If it is a looping problem, this should take care of it.

Cheers

Re: Is this possible? A 9 day MCM

Yes I was referring to the 9d 18:02:31 left and today is the 26th.
Now the times are going up but the fraction done is the same.
Elapsed time 1d 15:52:02
Estimated time remaining 12d 14:57:33
Fraction done 11.629%
It must be operating near a black hole and our time is slow biggrin

I suspended it and another task took over.

And this is not an actively used machine. It's my old 4-core laptop and I'm letting it do WCG 24/7 at 90% CPU until it dies.

Edited later:
I eventually aborted it.

Re: Is this possible? A 9 day MCM

I have occasionally seen this problem before -- typically something saying it's going to take over 1-day (I've never seen one say 4-days).

If I "Suspend" the WCG Project under the Projects tab (which halts *all* Tasks), and then "Resume", it corrects itself and finishes under an hour.
