Alternative to FightAIDS Project After Human Proteome Project?

I sure hope a new project comes along soon after the 'Human Proteome Project'. I definitely want nothing to do with the 'FightAIDS Project', and Im sure im not the only one. I for one cant wait to get home to block out the AIDS project from being worked on by my computer.

I was uncomfortable with it at first, but on reflection, most of those millions of sufferers are innocent victims, especially the women and children, and it is a worth while opportunity to do something to help them.

Re: Alternative to FightAIDS Project After Human Proteome Project?

Huh.

Let's look at some stats, shall we?
At the end of 2004, 40.3 million people worldwide were infected with HIV.
90% of them live - (ninety percent!) - in developing countries.
17.5 million of them were women . (43%)
2.3 million were children under the age of 15.

You think 2.3 million innocent children aren't worth your time?
I for one couldn't wait to disable Human Proteome Project and devote 100% of my resources to fightaids@home.

I am so grateful for this oppotunity to contribute against the scourage of AIDS. For far too long disease has been attributed to morality. Illness is a physical thing, we are physical beings and we all need to help each other.

If it weren't for the AIDS project, three of you wouldn't have posted your first message here in this thread and gotten involved in the Forum.

If you don't like working on AIDS, the human part of Rosetta is finished for the moment. Keep crunching on the Rosetta mustard plant until there's a new program and data. Watch for Rosetta phase II coming soon.

Re: Alternative to FightAIDS Project After Human Proteome Project?

AIDS is a human disease that should be researched and cured like all other human diseases. That is the primary mission of medical research and the practice of medicine. Simply choosing to ignore it will not cause it to disappear or cure people currently infected. What is immoral is to allow unnecesary suffering due to social or political attitudes. AIDS does not have a political or social agenda, just victims. The faster a cure or effective treatment is found, additional deaths can be avoided.

Re: Alternative to FightAIDS Project After Human Proteome Project?

WOW! What an intresting comment. Aids is killing millions and millions of innocent people everyday!!!!!!!! How depressing to hear that individuals have a closed mind on the subject of AIDS. It is a world wide problem that needs our help in finding better therapies for those who have it. World Community Grid stands for helping all of mankind not just certain individual groups. We the volunteers of the WCG have the computer power to help scientists solve this problem, but yet many still have closed minds.

WHAT A SHAME sad sad sad sad sad sad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALL OF MANKIND NEEDS OUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET'S STOP THEIR PAIN AND HELP REPAIR THE FUTURE BEFORE THE FUTURE IS THE PAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S OUR TURN TO HELP THOSE IN NEED NO MATTER WHAT THE DISEASE MAY BE!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Alternative to FightAIDS Project After Human Proteome Project?

While I completely agree with those supporting the FightAIDS@Home project and the efforts to reduce the suffering it brings on mankind, I want to call attention to a statement made by Robin Wilner, IBM Vice President of Global Initiatives, in an interview Monday. She said that there are six other projects in the pipeline and all can run simultaneously. The World Community Grid plans to announce several new philanthropic grid computing efforts in the first quarter of 2006. You can read the article here.

AIDS can also be obtained from blood transfusions, immoral or not. Doctors and nurses can get it from a patient by accidentally sticking themselves after withdrawing infected blood. Moral or not.
