I did the download and the install. The Manager was running for 24 hours and looked as though it was in some kind of loop so I canceled it. After 24 hours you would think I would have seen something other than just the manager. Can someone enlighten me about what I should be seeing and doing?

Then look at the the event log which is available under the tools heading in the manager. The post the first 25 or so lines of the event log in the forum and we may be able to see what is happening and offer some help. Cheers

You don't say what operating system you are using (which can influence the advice given!) but given the "I did the download" I'm guessing it's Windows; the more we know, the more likely someone will be able to help :-)
If it is Windows, I can't be of much help (Linux user here...), except to note that there was a 5-hour outage at WCG from around 14:50 UTC to 20:00 UTC on 2024-08-29... No-one was able to upload or report finished work, and no-one was able to get new work during that period -- the reports in the BOINC log can look a lot like a stuck loop when that happens (because it actually is stuck and one just has to wait for WCG to come back on line...) As Sgt. Joe says, a [short] extract from the BOINC log can be quite helpful; hopefully the user community will then be able to assist! Good luck!! Cheers - Al. |

I am a bit confused. You say you are using Win 11 Pro, yet on the 14th line down the system says "8/30/2024 5:24:27 PM | | OS: Microsoft Windows 10: Professional x64 Edition, (10.00.22631.00)"
----------------------------------------Are you using two separate operating systems ? Also, what projects do you have enabled in the profile labeled "home" ? The only project with any work units is currently MCM. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

IIRC some older BOINC versions reported Windows 11 as 10.
----------------------------------------Your log shows completed work being returned: 8/30/2024 5:24:33 PM | World Community Grid | Reporting 1 completed tasks Note that new devices may not show on WCG website due to ongoing issues.
Paul.

He is using an older version of BOINC 7.16.11, which indeed does not recognize Win 11.
----------------------------------------For best performance under Win 11 and to avoid potential problems, he should download and install the latest stable version (8.0.2) from the official BOINC REPOSITORY https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_8.0.2_windows_x86_64.exe ![]() ![]() |
