I have several computers that have returned work more than 2 days ago, however, only one computer is showing work with granted credit. There appears to be no way of tracking the state of work that has been returned but that does not yet have credit granted. I would like to be able to see why these results have not (yet?) been granted credit. Was it because they have not been validated yet because others have not returned their results for the WU yet? Was it because they are not valid for some reason? Did the server just lose them?

Hello John McLeod VII,
knreed has mentioned in several threads, such as http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=4492 that this section of the BOINC statistics model has not been implemernted on our server yet, but will be. Actually, I am surprised by how gew queries we get on this matter. |

You proberly haven't got that many queries about it yet as many people who run BOINC are getting put off over such things such as not been able to track the WU's, not exporting Team Stats etc.
----------------------------------------I know they may seem trivial to others but that is what alot of the BOINC community expect Edit: Also I'm not too comfortable with the BOINC credits been inflated to match those of the UD Client if they are running as two seperatre Clients then they should have there own seperatre credit procedures rather than the BOINC ones been inflated to match UD, as the BOINC client doesn't recognise this and displays a different total to what you actually do have. I don't know what others think about this?? ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Halifax--lad at Nov 21, 2005 8:35:22 AM] |

Hi Halifax--lad,
We are computing the standard BOINC credits. We just do not have the statistics page to show them yet. We do have a page for showing UD-style credits and for the moment we are displaying BOINC * 7 credits there. Clumsy, but it can be implemented FAST. |

You proberly haven't got that many queries about it yet as many people who run BOINC are getting put off over such things such as not been able to track the WU's, not exporting Team Stats etc. We will be working on this. The first priority though is to make it possible for people to do the science. Then we will work on the competitive spirit aspect. Just becuase it doesn't exist now doesn't mean we don't think it is important. Edit: Also I'm not too comfortable with the BOINC credits been inflated to match those of the UD Client if they are running as two seperatre Clients then they should have there own seperatre credit procedures rather than the BOINC ones been inflated to match UD, as the BOINC client doesn't recognise this and displays a different total to what you actually do have? The goal is to please both our existing user base and attract new members from the BOINC community. This leads us to a quandry in terms of points. UD has one system and BOINC has another. If we left the BOINC points at their level, then the points earned by Linux systems would be significantly lower then those earned by Windows systems running the UD agent. This would be perceived as unfair. If we modified the BOINC points to be on the same scale as the UD points immediately (so that the agent would report that number of points) then the BOINC XML stats exports would be dramatically higher and that would certainely upset the BOINC community as we would have inflated stats. The compromise was that we would not modify how BOINC awards points inside its system. This will let the BOINC XML stats be equivilant to the points from other BOINC sites (this is also why the BOINC clients report different points then the website). However, when the statistics are imported into the World Community Grid website, the points are uplifted so that of BOINC on Linux or BOINC on Windows would earn the equivilant points from those agents compared with equivilant computers running UD agents. This will them the compare in a fair manner to other members of World Community Grid (check the statistics section of the website). I would like to hear feedback on this approach. We have two very large communities involved and would like both to be content. [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Nov 21, 2005 2:22:38 PM] |

That clears it up alot more, I assumed the credits were inflated and passed out to your stats and the XML Stats if they are just going out as normal on the XML I can cope with that.
----------------------------------------I'm pretty sure Climate Prediction run there own client and the BOINC Client as two differant sets of results so people on BOINC get different credit to people on there standard client. If im incorrect im sure someone will point it out as wrong. |

Actually, I am surprised by how gew queries we get on this matter. I hadn't found the relevant thread. I am actually running Windows BOINC, and since I started I believe that I have returned more results than have been granted credit, and I could not tell why. I have a couple of questions. What is the quorum? How many copies are sent initially? |
