Hello all,
How can I change the "Resource share" column's values if I run world community grid and some other projects. I need to change world community grid's value in particular. The other projects values have been changed. I hope this question is in the correct forum, if not I am really sorry.\ Regards Frik Brits |

At the bottom of the page is Project Weight which is WCG’s name for the resource share. |

It think something has changed.
----------------------------------------In the device profiles pick one like default and at the bottom you see Cross Project Settings Now does Cross Project mean just this WCG profile within WCG or does Cross Project mean other projects like Denis OR Rosetta and must you change all profiles?Project Weight: 100 Switch between applications every: 60 minutes It should mean Denis OR Rosetta or other since Project Limits was how I limited each WCG project in the past but ...... spin the wheel and take a guess. I say try one and see. Come back and tell so we can know too. [Edit 3 times, last edit by BobbyB at Mar 11, 2024 8:48:22 PM] |

It means “for all computers using this profile for WCG, use this value to determine the weighting for this project (WCG) against all of the other projects running on the computer”. It means “for all computers using this profile for WCG, use this value to determine the weighting for this project (WCG) against all of the other projects running on the computer”. This is what I said but it is not obvious. I had to deduce this by the same logic you used. Then why is that option in all the 4 profiles? It is easy to assume it applies to that single profile. Does this value change for all 3 other profiles when you change home? What if you only use default and not home?In other projects like Rosetta or other it is obvious. It, WCG, used to like that because I remember checking into this in the past when the subject of weight vs share came up. Would it be hard to name it like all the others? britsfp: OK, now tell us so we can know alsoThank you for the help but after some searching I found the settings page I was looking for. My presumption is that you can set Home to, say, 120 and Work to, say 200 and computers linked to Home will run a different weighting to computers linked to Work and both would be different to the rest of the computers which are linked to default. |

It seems we got our wires crossed in this thread. My understanding of Cross Projects is Cross (Boinc) Projects running on a computer. How they fight for resources.
----------------------------------------In other Boinc projects, like Rosetta, there is a separate setting (resource share) which applies to all computers which connect to the project. So setting it to zero is how I was told to use Rosetta as a backup project. There are also similar settings as WCG for the same 4 profile names (without resource share). It is easy to assume resource share applies to all 4 profiles. I did not test using other profiles in Rosetta. I did tests with WCG using 50% and they only apply to the computer using that profile. This is as you say or what I understand you are saying. Tried this with 2 different profiles. To get the same effect as other Boinc projects you would need to change all WCG profiles if someone were using WCG as a backup. Which way is better? My use of profiles now make no difference since we only have MCM. To correct my previous statement I only remember checking the wording of the share vs weight thingy. I never lowered WCG. Only did the other Boinc projects as backups. [Edit 1 times, last edit by BobbyB at Mar 12, 2024 9:26:36 PM] |

Only did the other Boinc projects as backups. If you look at Rosetta the Resource Share is on a page called Rosetta@Home Preferences. At the bottom of that page it allows you to set up separate profiles for Home, Work, etc. so it is just the same as WCG, i.e. you can set up a different weighting for each profile,so I don’t see the issue. |
