Boinc on linux hasn't been getting work units in a very long time

just recently realized my raspberry pi wasn't doing any work and hasn't in months. my PC is even with the occational down times. I updated the Pi still no work units, I uninstalled and rebooted, then reinstalled followed by another reboot. Still nothing.

Before I did a full uninstall the requesting new tasks and no tasks sent was a frequent entry. checking my status I don't see any work units completed by this device going as far back as december 13, my fault for not checking up on it I just assumed its was working fine as it used to and its a headless device so I actively have to check in on it. I'm not a Linux expert so any instructions need to be spelled out very clearly or better yet something that can be copy and pasted in to the command line. hope someone can help.

Re: Boinc on linux hasn't been getting work units in a very long time

@knelson276,
WCG no longer has any projects that run on Arm Linux.
Until fairly recently, you could run OPN1 (i.e. the CPU version of OpenPandemics) on Arm Linux. However, the researchers have decided to stop releasing OPN1 workunits. They are concentrating on OPNG workunits (i.e. the GPU version of OpenPandemics).
It is possible to run MCM1 on a Raspberry Pi, but you would need to install an Android OS to do this (and there can be issues with running Android headless).
If you want or need to keep your Pi on Linux, you could switch to another project that runs Arm Linux. One in the health sphere is Denis@Home, although they are having a few issues with their servers at the moment. Denis releases tasks every few days, so you will only have tasks to run intermittently.
Cheers,
Mark

Re: Boinc on linux hasn't been getting work units in a very long time

Thanks for the reply, nice to know this wasn't something I screwed up, somebody might want to update the operating systems under system requirements which still has versions for ARM processors listed for openpandemics. Its kind of sad I've had this thing running for months thinking it was doing some good for the world and it was just wasting electricity, thankfully it only pulls a couple watts at idle. I looked at running Andorid a few years ago but could not find clear instructions on how to do it. maybe its time to look again.

Re: Boinc on linux hasn't been getting work units in a very long time

I check on my 5 machines each day.

I don't actually visit each one. I use the PC I am on now. It's like checking my e-mail. It takes up about 30 seconds of my day. This week-end WCG was running dry and I had to turn on backups. OK, so I had to be more active since some of those backups were close to dry also. Both Denis and Rosetta thanked me. (not really)

Hi knelson276!

https://www.sidock.si/sidock/ has work for Raspberry Pi 32 bit if you want to give them a try.

Note that as far as I can see, Denis@Home requires 64 bit, which you may not be able run, depending on the Pi model you have.

Just a FYI in case it makes a difference to you.

Although SiDock operates from a SI TLD it is really a Moscow thing.

I use it as a backup for my backups and have 1.6M points. What I hate about their WUs is that they are 1 day+ even on my Ryzen 9 3900X.

Don't know the length for a Pi.

For the Raspberry Pi they have short unit tasks - see https://www.sidock.si/sidock/forum_thread.php?id=225 They seem to run just over 24 hours at the moment.
