Since I started to run WCG back in 2016, I've accumulated well over 400+ devices in my account. 95% of these devices are no longer in use as the PCs have been decommissioned/obsoleted. I think there should be an option to delete/remove these devices and it is up to the owner to make that decision. Perhaps this will help to shrink the database and makes database queries run faster, at least pertaining to device query?
----------------------------------------P.S. The older PCs output is only a small fraction of what can be produced by newer hardware. I understand some people just for nostalgic reason likes to keep older PC stats but again that should be up to the individual owners. As I understand WCG does not run on the plain vanilla standard BOINC server platform which allows owners to delete/remove obsoleted devices from their account. |

I second this. The amount of options and the overall device management sucks at this project compared to other BOINC projects.
Creating individual profiles takes days as the device wont even show up on the web page for nearly a whole day. Then giving it a separate profile (like CPU only tasks) does NOT work. I am going to assume this will also take a day before it works as it is supposed to. This is completely unacceptable. |

Yep, sounds like a good idea. Adopting the BOINC template like most other projects is better and would be easier for Krembil to keep on top of compared to what IBM put together.
----------------------------------------IBM's custom implementation just sucks at this point and the forum software is beyond outdated Can't imagine the security holes in it. |

It would be far better in the long run that WCG converts 100% to BOINC and leaves IBMs' custom setup/software. Sure it might be a PITA to get it done initially, but once it's done then everything else will be far easier.

Prior to add new options, we need new projects and project work.

Prior to add new options, we need new projects and project work. Well, and existing stuff needs to start "working"... Cheers, Yves Ralf |
