confused BOINC on Windows

From what I can see on the Front Pages and the news section in the forums the Windows BOINC client has never been advertised or mentioned that it now works on WCG.

Why does the windows version not seem to get a mention apart from users in the community spreading the word confused confused

Even signing up for BOINC you have to go through the linux page if you go to the Windows page it doesnt mention BOINC one bit.

Whats going on confused confused

Also does FightAids@Home work with Windows BOINC or not all your documentation just says it doesn't work on BOINC Linux but says At this time it is only available on the Windows - UD Agent so does that rule out BOINC Windows

Re: BOINC on Windows

Seems I have now answered my own Question I havent been around the forums and just read a thread that mentioned the Windows platform for BOINC wasn't supported as yet by WCG but it is there for people to use and as such it is word of mouth from people in the BOINC Community as WCG will point everyone to UD for the time.

So I just need my other question answering now does FightAids@Home work with Windows BOINC??

Re: BOINC on Windows

Halifax--lad,

At this time FightAids@Home is not supported under BOINC/Windows.

United Devices is our supported Windows Client.

As you pointed out, we will be launching FightAids@Home for BOINC/Linux in the near future.

Thanks,

Re: BOINC on Windows

There are still problems with the progressbar, many times I have 0% displayed, other time 1,94% and jump at the end to 100%. A good idea is to reduce the results from 4 to 1 like rosetta to get faster credits and push up this project in results. Its not nice to calculate the same WU 4 times! crying

Re: BOINC on Windows

Hi codeman01101001,
We are trying to fully implement BOINC and trying to get FightAIDS@Home up and running. So we are bringing FAAH onto the grid on our time-tested UD.exe, which has been running HPF (Human Proteome Folding Project) for over a year. But since we have enough of BOINC programmed on the server to work, we are also putting out HPF work units for BOINC on Linux and Windows. Meanwhile BOINC on Linux is a priority, since we have no other Linux grid agent. And we are boarding FAAH to run on BOINC. So BOINC Windows is last in priority.

Oh yes, if I have not been confused by all the above, we are redoing the website in French, so we can start learning how to handle multi-lingual support.

Ask nelsoc to curse in French for you. Those are the words he will be deleting. biggrin

Re: BOINC on Windows

Hi codeman01101001,
Statistics are the reason I say that we are still implementing BOINC. We have the rest of the system programmed but we need more time to program the BOINC results page and (much lower priority) to export the XML Team Statistics. It will all be done eventually but right now nothing shows up until it is validated. The server is keeping a record of points and we have a temporary fix showing the BOINC points * 7 added to the UD statistics pages. [1 BOINC point seems to be about 7 UD points.] We talk about this on the Points page: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=points

Re: BOINC on Windows

If it helps, I did seti@home for years, a really valuable project you will all agree. Then came BOINC. I took to it with enthusiasm and also took on the climate change programme as well, partly because it was based in my own country, the UK.

The problem I found was that BOINC was so unreliable that it was very difficult to find out whether or not it was working. Last spring they came out with a new upgrade which did not work at all, and at the same time I discovered WGC from the IBM web site. I'm glad to say that WCG is totally reliable and a positive improvement!

So I have gone from romantic dreams, via the rising tides (do we really need computer predictions to know the tides are rising?) and pure research, to practical AIDS research, and GOT AWAY FROM BOINC as well!

Robert

Why do you say so ????

BOINC has now about 14 projects working. I've been using it from the very beginning and I didn't found any particular problem. Now I'm attached at 12 projects so if there is a problem with one, the other projects don't stop crunching numbers
