Re: Hey Linux experts--Issue with Mint install

I have the problem with boinc that it won't resume after I suspended for a while. I just upgraded Linux Mint to 21.3. Boinc version from repository is: 7.18.1 x86_64. When I open File/New Boinc Manager (prerelease) window, I get: Select computer window and Another instance of boinc manager is (prerelease) is already running on this computer. Select a client to monitor. Then there is 2 fields to fill: Hostname and Password. I don't know what to put for host name. Is password the same I use for WCG. If I open System Monitor I see: 3 instances of boincmgr, one sleeping and two zombies. I cannot force the zombies to exit. So I don't know what is really going on here.
Edit: in the hostname field, I entered computer name given from hostname command typed in a terminal. I then entered password in the second field for my login to Linux. That never fixed anything. Another window came up after that with: BOINC Manager (prerelease} is not able start a client. Please run the client and try again.

Your password for your Linux login is _not_ the BOINC password that can be found in the file "gui_rpc_auth.cfg". :-)

You wrote: "I have the problem with boinc that it won't resume after I suspended for a while."
After suspending, how do you determine that BOINC isn't running or isn't resuming? Did you already run htop or top or ps -fuboinc or do you run BOINC by yourself instead of user boinc?

I have never had to enter a password to run boinc before When I clicked on the button labeled resume, the label changed to suspend but on the next tab in boinc the work units said suspended by user. There was no cpu activity for the work units when I looked on psensor window. I have boinc local settings for cpu not to exceed 60%. CPU activity was close to zero.

Re: Hey Linux experts--Issue with Mint install

Did you follow the instructions in this thread to issue these four commands?
sudo systemctl enable boinc-client
sudo usermod -a -G boinc $USER
sudo chmod 664 /etc/boinc-client/gui_rpc_auth.cfg
sudo systemctl restart boinc-client

In a more common setup of BOINC you shouldn't have to type BOINC's password and I don't know psensor, but let's try to get your tasks going again without the BOINC Manager. In a terminal, type this:
boinccmd --project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org resume

Are there any tasks running now? Try this:
boinccmd --get_simple_gui_info | grep -E active\|suspended

The host name is the value described as device name in the results screen, the password is the value in gui_rpc_auth.cfg

Re: Hey Linux experts--Issue with Mint install

Exalpha- How did you get LM 21 to work on WCG? LM21 has Ubuntu 22.04 which from what I understand is that the combination of LM/22.04 won't work and there isn't a fix. 20.04 works for me but it wont on 22.04 so I stopped crunching.

Re: Hey Linux experts--Issue with Mint install

Issue was that Mint 20.04 would work, but not on 22.04. The problem was that mint repository and some others used Boinc 7.18.1 which was never intended for anything other than Android. So mostly useless without a lot of changes via command line and then not stable. The fix: I removed all of WCG/Boinc then installed from the LM software manager BOINC MANAGER via Flathub which uses version 7.22.1. So far everything seems normal on 22.04. I spent hours on this and everything was a complex work around or high risk PPA. This was the only safe fix.

Re: Hey Linux experts--Issue with Mint install

Just to verify, in my case Linux mint/22.04 does not work with the WCG standard Linux download as it uses BOINC version 7.16. You have to use the Linux Mint software manager. Rather odd the the source, WCG download, is outdated compared to other sources, but in this case it is the fix.
