What luck! I only just came across this today. Could be the perfect project for me! Count me in!
----------------------------------------[edit] btw, the project stats for fightaids@home seem a little... strange. 2 years total run time? Is it just behaving like that because it's still early days, or have the stats from the old Entropia client been carried over? Hello Michael Milan,
btw, the project stats for fightaids@home seem a little... strange. 2 years total run time? Is it just behaving like that because it's still early days, or have the stats from the old Entropia client been carried over? The Statistics show 60 years run time 19 Nov 2005 on the Human Proteome Folding Project before midnight GMT but only 2 years on the FightAIDS@Home project. We are just starting off, but in a few days we will be running FAAH for many years of computer time each day.Remember, 10,000 computers can contribute more than 27 years of computer time each day. This is the idea that drives distributed computing projects. mycrofth |

Hello AntonRuban,
AutoDock ( http://www.scripps.edu/mb/olson/doc/autodock/ ) is the application program developed by The Scripps Research Institute that we run (using our customized version WCGrid_AutoDock.exe) for the FightAIDS@Home project ( http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu/ ). We also use a grid program UD.exe developed by United Devices ( http://www.ud.com/home.htm ) to control the application in Windows, download work units and return result files. You will also hear of a BOINC program ( http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ ) that will do the same thing in the Linux OS when we get it going with FAAH next month. |

Just when I was about to hit 500 hours of work time with the old FAAH they switched! Now I'll just have to catch up again ;)

Then here's to 500 more (hopefully less buggy) hours!
BTW, fightaids@home officially launches today! Whoot! ![]() |

The new AIDS project downloads about 42000 BYTE workunits and returns tiny, tiny results, only about 47000 BYTES in size. You know how big Rosetta stuff is. It takes about an hour per day to process all of my Rosetta results on a dial-up connection. This means that I can return the new results in only a few minutes and get back to crunching.
----------------------------------------The AIDS workunits seem also to be running about twice as long as Rosetta workunits, as a rough average. That also means more crunching time with less interruption. The number of results will be less, but notice that the run time and points could increase. The CPU time per calendar day should also increase. I don't know what the maximum allowable runtime is. I assume it's two weeks. UDMonitor folks may have to be cautious and not set up too many cache slots that wouldn't get done by then. I'm only finishing about half as many per day as with Rosetta, of course.

Can you tell me how my computer is now runninng the FightAids@Home rather than the Human Proteome folding that I signed up for nearly a year ago. Is the Human Proteome project finished? I am not against participating in the FightAids project but I had a personal interest in the Human Proteome project. Also, I never authorized the switch.

Hello ///Madman,
We finally activated the multiple project code on the server. Until then, everybody had been signed up as HPF only. You can click on 'My Grid' - 'My Profile' - 'My Projects' and select HPF only. This will last until the project you have selected terminates, at which time you will revert to 'Participate in All Projects'. The HPF project is in the final stage. We discuss the preliminary results in the Fall 2005 Newsletter here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/newsletter/viewActiveResearch.do Also, there is some preliminary mention of a follow-up project called HPF2 by Dr. Richard Bonneau here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=4708 mycrofth |
