We all know that WCG needs financial support to continue, and I doubt any one of us want to see this fade away as a result. Currently, WCG has just over 19,000 active volunteers. If all active volunteers were making just a very small monthly contribution, I'd wager WCG would be doing more than good.
----------------------------------------What I would like to see from the Lab, and how they can help is as follows: The Lab knows what their minimal funding requirement is to keep the WCG cancer research project, and the existing projects going. List that amount on the Donate page, and incorporate a bar graph so we can see where the project requirements are, compared to what has been received for the year. BOINC Stats is a good example of this here https://www.boincstats.com/page/donate A single bar graph covering the year is fine. That should be easy, and can be quickly implemented. Add a 2nd bar graph and funding number for what is realistically needed to expand on that minimum, to provide for the on-boarding of new projects, as is the original project purpose, and have the system running as you'd like it to. When the minimum funding for the year is fulfilled, additional donations will spill over into this 2nd bar graph. This one may take more time, as the Lab determines what that operational requirement is. A little clarity on what is needed, compared to what is being donated, will go a long way to help us help you. Once done, this can also be used to assist in fundraising. “Where an excess of power prevails, property of no sort is duly respected. No man is safe in his opinions, his person, his faculties, or his possessions.” – James Madison (1792) |

Thank you Paul - good suggestions, especially as our resources are diminishing. I will prepare the update and the updated web page - but briefly; as of Oct 31, 2023 we have received CDN 9,559,40 in donations.Thank you to all volunteers who donate more than CPU/GPU resources.
Bare minimum operation is 2 technical and 1 communication staff. We are working on a few new strategies for ensuring WCG survives - and we should know in about a month time the preliminary results. This would modify how big deficit we would need to fill. Thank you igor |

First thing you need to do after securing more funding is to dump IBM's customized and outdate/insecure system (especially the forum software) and just use BOINC's standard system.
----------------------------------------I believe this would save you a ton of headaches and issues moving forward. |

I believe this would save you a ton of headaches and issues moving forward. Can't say I disagree. It would probably require a great amount of effort to do so, but seems like it could fix so many problems. As has been stated many times in many different threads. Communication is the key. Lack of engagement doesn't bode well for contributions. Mutual engagement would go a long way towards getting monetary and non-monetary contributions. Sometimes I think the project really doesn't care whether there are contributors or not.
