For some reason I have devices running and returning results but the big system in the sky never seems to notice. These two, at the moment and "Four" and "Miracle". The latter is especially galling since it has been churning through and returning 24 results every two hours and it is my most productive machine. Looking at results on this website tells me that the last return from Miracle was on October 26th and that clearly is not the case. Surely the system can be modified so that users can remediate such problems on their own instead of hoping that somebody upstairs will take notice. Oh, and the system Four has been unrecognized for months now despite churning through a substantial number of units every day; It was suggested previously that somebody would take care of it but nothing ever happened.

Did you post in the missing devices thread to request that somebody take care of it? |

Which thread is the "missing devices thread"? It seems to be a widespread problem and many threads mention it. Is there one special place that I should post my problem? I have mentioned it before with reference to machine "Four" in one or more threads but after probably two months it is still not recognized.

You have already posted about it in the relevant thread, and TigerLily acknowledged your post(s) -- see here for that response . I suggest you repost there with a reminder (including the host id again), as they may have interpreted a lack of further comment to mean the problem had been solved (by action or by default!)
Cheers - Al. |

Hi jmcgaw,
I'm sorry to hear that your devices are still missing from your profile. If you send along the host IDs, I will remind the tech team to ensure these devices are added. |

And by "host IDs" you mean what exactly? I have provided the problem system names a couple of times so I assume that this is not what you want. I will be the first to admit that I do not know the inner workings of BOINC and there is no obvious way for me to discern these facts going in blind. Does the client tell me the host ID? Is it buried in a file somewhere? Is it in the registry? Please elucidate for the ignorant...

If you had followed the link that was posted by alanb1951 above and did read that post ("see here for that response") and after your posting "Too bad that the client doesn't show things like that or the computer name for that matter." in post 689261 had taken the time to read the response "O, but it does, if you dare looking a little bit further." (in post 689287), you would have known everything about: and where to find them. Adri |

RE: post 689287:
"Open the Event Log in Boinc Manager, scroll back to the beginning and … hey presto!" No such thing as "host name" in MY log although the computer ID does show. I think that restarting the client does not cleanly clear out the log file since the beginning of mine is truncated since mine starts with "Setting up project and slot directories". So, how do I purge the log file so that I can get a fresh one to look at? Too bad that somebody didn't give us a "clear log" option somewhere... |

We're getting somewhere. Instead of "Clear Log" (which doesn't exist), there is an option "Copy All" in the Event Log. So, again, this is what you would do, step by step: After clicking Copy All, paste the text that you copied into a post or a file and if all's well you should see Host name (and Computer ID, of course) somewhere in that post or file.
