Hello.
I have access to a lot of powerful linux machines that I want to use for the project, but I don't want to run BOINC during the day. I noitced that regardless if people are on the server and using something or not, the rosetta always stops and then restarts the minute the CPU is not used. I cannot explain myself to my collegues that I'm using their machines during the day to run something that's non-work related, and if the machines degrade in performance by whatever precentage, then Im in trouble. I would appreciate if anyone could help me setup some kind of cron job, script or whatever to start BOINC say at 8pm or midnight, every day (except on weekends) and stop at 6am. I'm using RedHat 7.3, and my scripts are located in /root/BOINC and I have a file called start.sh that starts the program automatically. Now all I need is to start this, and stop this using cron/other scripts. I'm not script writer/programmer, otherwise I would have done this myself. If *ANYONE* here has these kinds of scripts, or could give me a hand, I would greatly appreciate it. ![]() |

One more question.
On PCs you have to login manually, and you're bound to your team through the login. With linux, you get a key file something like : 276ae51a1d8a25038104812a346cc32d Does this key file bind you to your team? |

First, your BOINC key is linked to your user name, which your username is linked with a particular team. So Yes, it does count the points you receive on your BOINC device with your team.
Second, You can use the device profiles located http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do to edit the "default" profile for times when you want the application to run. This will suspend the application that is using your spare CPU cycles. This does leave BOINC running on your system, but it is in idle mode and unless someone searches for it, they wouldn't notice an impact from it. Also, I would recommend doing this before you initially attach BOINC to World Community Grid. Hope this helps. |

You can also use boinc_cmd if the schedule is more complex than same times every day (weekends special for example).

Another question
We're behind a proxy. I usually set the proxy settings in the .tcshrc profile, then execute boinc. Is there any place where I can set the proxy settings within the boinc files so its there by default? |

I was able to attach all my machines using the boincmgr, however this was a graphical installation. My question is. Will this setup/information stay once a machine has to be rebooted, or will I have to redo the binding in boincmgr (?). I know I gotta start the process manually, I just want it to have the proxy information saved.

The information and settings that you set via the BOINC Manager are persistent and will continue to be set even after stopping and restarting the client or computer.
