Hi!
I saw this real-time warming index at https://globalwarmingindex.org/ And it sparked me this idea: World Community Grid could give a: real-time (or at least daily-updated) estimate of the number of years, months, days to finish each active research project, taking into account: 1. the yearly average of finished tasks and 2. the researchers' estimate on what still needs to be done in each project. |

A nice thought , but the entire scope of some of the projects are indeterminate. The length of the project may be more dependent on the availability of funds and researchers than any other factors. The African Rainfall project probably has an estimate of the total computing time required because they are using a fixed area and fixed times, but with cancer research, there are many kinds of cancers and many kinds of potential protein or drug docking possibilities, so only the researchers can decide how far to go. I would welcome potential estimates of project length, but don't foresee these coming anytime soon. Cheers

Thank you very much, Sgt. Joe! Even if running the risk of going slightly off-topic, but in direct reply to your comment: do you know if there (or are there planned) direct vehicles (read: ways to donate) through World Community Grid for supporting the availability of funds for the World Community Grid research projects? Theoretically, to make this even more accessible, a column could be created for the BOINC Manager tasks menu for this purpose.
I just shared this idea of a BOINC radio (midi music, generated on the client side so as not to burden the servers, through an algorithm - one unique song for each unique task) on the BOINC forum. Some extra features of this feature (such as downloading or changing genre) could be other vehicles for supporting the research. |
