Hi MOT mates!!
It's been quite some time since I last posted but I discovered that beginning my holidays last week meant even MORE work for me. Anyway... First of all: all the best to brave Dave Bell. Heads up, my friend -- I'm very happy to hear that the worst thing to complain is the pain and you got a NEGATIVE biopsy result (which in normal logicc is VERY POSITIVE). Don't take those stupic pills if they doen't work properly, you already brewed the best pain killer on earth and you seem to have plenty of it Then: WELCOME all those new members to our wonderful team MOT and CONGRATULATIONS to all the cool milestones falling and popping away almost every day -- you really rock, fellas!!! While I was silent, my machines (also silently) crunched away at a combined rate of +20,000 points per day, making tomorow a new big milestone for me (hi Graham, time to sharpen the digital pencil )My best machine, my dual XEON 2.8 (with HTT enabled) runs 4 threads of rosetta (did anybody get HIV work units for BOINC yet or is the HIV project still only for WIN??) for about 1900-2000 points per day. On normal working days it also plays either MP3s for me or shows live TV. Yes, I managed to get a Terratec Cinergy T2 DVB-T box running smoothly under Linux to show wonderful quality TV on a "spare" 19" flatscreen. Will have to setup MythTV to get a full featured digital TV/recorder box with stills (also screenshots), slo-motion, timeshift, EPG (electronic program guide) with very cool recorder setup (record "Southpark" whenever aired on this channel / on any channel, record all sport programs, on collisions look for reruns, etc.). Of course you get videotext! OSD of cast and show info! Ad cutting! Did I already say that the USB device comes with an antenna and a full-featured remote control??Way ![]() The DVB-T stations air MPEG-2 streams so on the pro side it's easy to record (just save) although it's quite big (about 1GB per hour). MythTV will be a step forward as it encodes to MPEG-4 (more specific: DivX). On the con side the stream has to be decoded by the CPU to view it (unless you get a builtin card like a Hauppauge with a hardware decoder). So I have to admit that while I watch TV, one of the four virtual CPUs is used up for as much of 25%. That's 1/16 of the full machine which adds up to some 5-6 points loss per hour!!! I promise not to watch too much TV Back on Monday to celebrate my second million (will not be on my desk over the weekend as usual). Best regards, Stefan!! |

Don't take those stupic pills if they doen't work properly, you already brewed the best pain killer on earth and you seem to have plenty of it ![]() Stefan -- Thanks for the kind thoughts. Believe me, I would be consuming my homebrewed painkiller if I could, but the docs have me on an antibiotic and I don't want to risk an infection. When I am off the antibiotic, I do have to address the problem of too many full bottles of beer -- LOL. I actually have about 8 gallons bottled and also have 10 gallons which I need to bottle. I am hoping to feel well enough today or tomorrow to get to my bottling chores. |

LOL. I actually have about 8 gallons bottled and also have 10 gallons which I need to bottle. I am hoping to feel well enough today or tomorrow to get to my bottling chores. In the 18th century, the British Navy gave rations of rum and beer to the seamen as the water supply was not considered safe enough to drink.. I was surely born in the wrong age Hope you feel better soon Dave, good news about the results.. Johnny, |
