That was some day on the grid

34,854 PC's on all day yesterday producing about 104 TeraFlops

Amazingly there's now only 1 supercomputer that can beat that (and it must be beginning to sweat biggrin)

We seem to have got the measure of IBM Corp again with a stonking 257,582 points posted by little BIG MOT yesterday.

The proof of the pudding will be next weeks challenge to see if we can now hold that 5 spot

I know it's not a real figure but 1955 devices for a team of 222 has to make you smile

....but we are looking for new team mates to help us make it to our 3rd millennium

(That's 2 n's - sorry that's an old gag but it keeps us old timers amuzed smile - have a search on the forum)

Keep those fans blowing and those CPU's glowing
Dave

Re: That was some day on the grid

Over at grid.org it took me 5 years 97 days 4 hours 32mins and lets not forget those 16 seconds of run time to put together 543,516 points

although the points scheme is slightly skewed in our favour here on the WCG - the network score is pinned to 100.

I've done it!!

With just 2years 72 days 16 hours 50 minutes and those 7 extra seconds I've matched it.

At Grid.org I started crunching with a 233Mhz box of tricks moving through a few Celeron's to my pride and joy ASUS 815 Mobo with a P111 733Mhz boy it was fast with it's 3Dfx Voodoo3 card (cutting edge). That was the last time I spent £200 on a processor shock . After that I jumped the Intel ship with a 2100+ Athlon XP, which lives on in Jessica's PC (My youngest) reaching the top speed of Socket A with my 3200+ (When I saw one for £85 wink)

Thinking Socket 939 and 64 bit computing next with a NF4 board from ASUS those 3700+'s San Diego Cores beginning to fall within reach with the upgrade potential of X2 in a year or so.

It can only be VFM crunching at MOT HQ
The cheap as chips strategy seems to be working

Re: That was some day on the grid

Morning All,

We seem to have got the measure of IBM Corp again with a stonking 257,582 points posted by little BIG MOT yesterday.

A certain worldwide computing giant who may or may not be mentioned in a previous post and for whom I may or may not work had WCG articles leading both their UK and Worldwide Intranet sites this week so they may or may not be worried about the competition wink

Have a good weekend,

Johnny,

(p.s. - how long does this 'stranger' thing last? I am beginning to feel unloved biggrin )

Re: That was some day on the grid

bl1nxz I've extracted this from one of Graham's posts for you

01 to 19 posts = Stranger
20 to 49 posts = Newbie
50 to 99 posts = Member
100 + posts = Advanced Member

We've been banging on IBM's door all year about this one as it make our new posters feel unloved.

The only solution at the moment is to get posting wink

After 1403 posts including this one I'm definitely getting stranger

Strange language this English

Dave

Self assembly furniture

When does self assembly furniture stop being self assembly and become I might as well have built this from scratch?

Just put together some kind of storage dodar for sheets and stuff the only thing I didn't have to do was chop down the tree!!!

You needed the cabinet making skills of Chippendale

OK i exaggerate just a tad but this was a whole tool kit job except for a saw biggrin .

(Being sexist for a change wink) Gents your thoughts please

Re: Self assembly furniture

And while I'm on a rant

I'd like to thank the nice person in the Green Ford Focus who parked in the Tesco's Car Wash last night while he went to collect his ticket. Leaving me who had parked up considerately and previously purchased my ticket unable to access said car wash until he had returned removed his car aerial and gone through in front of me.

Obviously his life is much more important than my own so I freely give it up

You know who you are biggrin

Re: Self assembly furniture

Dave --

Ain't life great biggrin

Speaking of your Tesco's experience -- my pet peave is having to hobble with my cane from the handicapped parking around the car of a very important generation X'er's car that is blocking the doorway into the grocery where he/she has parked so that he/she can rush in and not lose very important time running to and from his or her car.

Re: Self assembly furniture

Dave on reflection I'm very lucky to have only these mild grievances with the world.

This being a global project our perspectives can get a little out of step with others from around the World.

I've been troubled with the disparities of our combined experiences since the start of this project.

Who would have thought that through simple number crunching you would need to face up to the part you play on this tiny blue planet
