Question about a late task going to Error status instead of allowing to finish

In the past, whenever a task ran past the deadline, a resend would be sent out to another user, but the original [late] task was still allowed to continue. In the event the late task finishes, the server aborts the resend. Else if the resend is returned before the late task, the server aborts it, and it switches to "Too Late" status.

In the above screenshot, my SCC1 was running late but would have been completed about 1 hour or 2 hours after its deadline, but instead it was immediately error'd out.

Is my memory wrong, or is this something that changed in the past couple years?
