I'm putting together another machine. Looking for tips or hints about cooling: clearance, 1 fan, 2 fans.
Gigabyte B550M K, Corsair 32G 3200MHz optimised for AMD DDR4 motherboards, and am looking at Ryzen 5900 or 5900x CPU. The 5950x would require liquid cooling from all I read. Don't want to get into that. I already have a 3900x with a Noctua NH-D15S so I presume it will do. With the Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo it got too hot during summer heat waves. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=653672 I alread have a thread "How much heat is HOT" but now have the specs for what I will build. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=685338 Am I wrong about the 5950x and liquid cooling? Which cooler are you using for your 5900 or 5950? |

I am using a CoolerMaster ML 360 AIO liquid cooler, but if I didn't, I would use the Noctua NH-D15.

I didn't mean to imply that I have a Ryzen 7000 series. I am running an Intel i9-10850K @4.8GHz (125 Watts TDP) with package temperature of 74C with the ten cores running 66-74C. The TDP of the Ryzen 5950X is 105 Watts.

OK! Guess I will have to measure and check compatibility for the motherboard. For some users the second fan is a problem re memory height.
----------------------------------------I'm fairly certain it can take the heat. If I do go the NH-D15 route I'll use your tag. I know we are not suppose use our own tags but no rule about using someone else's [Edit 1 times, last edit by BobbyB at Jun 17, 2023 5:33:21 PM] |

Noctua NH-D15 should be fine for any Ryzen 5000 series, even the 5950X. There's also an Eco mode for lower TDP/heat output during summer heat waves.

Don't forget about undervolting to save watts and lower heat output.

The 5950x would require liquid cooling from all I read. Don't want to get into that. I am running even a 7950X 24/7 with 142W and a voltage offset of -0,09V with the Noctua NH-D15. No need for liquid cooling. |

What temps are your getting?
----------------------------------------...and yes about undervolting. I learnt that with my 3900x when I set it up and just a few days ago with my 3600x. It never occurred to me with the 3600x since the temps were not too bad ~75 C now ~68.5 C Looks like I will go for a 5950x. Just a bit more $ [Edit 2 times, last edit by BobbyB at Jun 18, 2023 2:37:32 PM] |

I am currently using 5950X with 360 AIO. Temps are around 60-65C.
