That detailed document is very cool! Enjoyed admiring all the fancy hardware the students were able to spec out into functional systems. Glad to see all the UPS units there too. I bet the room stays toasty in the winter.

Enjoyed admiring all the fancy hardware the students were able to spec out into functional systems. Glad to see all the UPS units there too. I bet the room stays toasty in the winter. Everything on UPS! Cyberpower has also been great to work with and has shown us a ton of support. Every once in a while we have momentary power surges, so they are absolutely workstation savers. We are in South Florida- it's always hot. haha |

Cheers Part of my class next year will be working to bring green energy (solar) to the school (not to provide ALL electricity to the school, but help offset it) . We do a project on a yearly basis, and that is what I have lined up. It will bring PLENTY of difficulties but these students will be up for the challenge. Also, our school is absolutely massive, so what we use overall is small compared to the whole. Our usage still matters though, and that is why next year's project will be focused on this. |

How would you suggest to get more schools involved? Is there a formal lesson plan that you would be willing to share with other schools? This is such a cool idea, what could i do to share this with other science programs?

This is such a cool idea, what could i do to share this with other science programs? Find interested teacher(s) and students- that is about the only way. I have an outline of how I incorporated it into my class and am happy to share it with anyone who is interested. It always starts with simply sharing what distributed computing and WCG are, why it is important, and why we should care. Once those ideas are conveyed, then it is easier to have science programs/classes want to participate. Also, many high school students WANT to do some sort of work to increase the body of scientific knowledge, but just don't know how. Distributed computing is an "easy" place for them to start. |

Congratulations. This is awesome! I have worked as an IT professional for my entire career. I'm now paying it forward by serving on the advisory board for the computer science program at the university I graduated from. We have stressed how critical it is to have students who demonstrate passion for computing.
At home, I run WCG on a Raspberry PI 4. It's not as fast as the Windows machines out there but is definitely at least as stable and doesn't have the cooling requirements that Windows machines have. Something to consider - the price of entry is very low, the power requirements are minimal, and your students get exposure to Linux. |
