@Grumpy Swede
----------------------------------------Please read information by following the link in regards to OPN1 the last 15 batches have been loaded for distribution In our most recent OPN update, we announced the availability of new OPNG work units and the gradual depletion of OPN1 work units. Despite anticipating all of the OPN1 work units to be taken, 15 batches remain available as of April 24. Your welcome, by the team estimates cyclops thinks there is 10,200 batches remaining of the original 12,500 batches to be distributed of GPU work. 300 batches are being distributed a day, that means there is 34 days of work remaining. Numbers used can be found in the update cyclops posted.
----------------------------------------Hope you had a good sleep |

Great news on the end of CPU tasks even if it's a temporary thing. No, it is definitively not great. It is a sad news. Nothing for the Raspberry Pi. Not everybody run GPU. WCG's initial objective was to allow a wide range of contributors. Step-by-step it is not the reality anymore. Cheers, Yves --- PS: By the way, focusing on GPU tasks requires a bullet proof WCG platform. It was maybe possible during the IBM time; since 1 year, it is not the case anymore. I am still not sure it is worth to invest in new hardware. |

Cheers, Yves --- PS: By the way, focusing on GPU tasks requires a bullet proof WCG platform. It was maybe possible during the IBM time; since 1 year, it is not the case anymore. I am still not sure it is worth to invest in new hardware. I understand but CPUs are better used on projects that don't have GPU apps. If a GPU can run 88 jobs contained within a single task in just a few minutes compared to a CPU task that runs 1 or 2 jobs in 2 hours, then there's no point in having the CPU app. Computing resources are limited and should be used properly. *Personal Opinion* There's also the question of whether it's worth running a COVID-19 project in 2023. From what I can tell and after 3 years, there's not much to report. Over a year ago, "fantastic results" were mentioned on this update but I just went looking for more news on that and found nothing. *Personal Opinion* AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 2 times, last edit by Falconet at Apr 30, 2023 12:08:08 PM] |

Falconet, hopefully what we learn here will give us a head start on current mutations and other coronaviruses.
----------------------------------------Speedy, most hours of the day there are no GPU batches being distributed at all. We could wrap this project up in a few days with a continuous flow of work. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dayle Diamond at Apr 30, 2023 1:34:03 PM] |

Falconet, hopefully what we learn here will give us a head start on current mutations and other coronaviruses. I agree. Basic research into Covid and its brethren is useful for the whole field of virology. Hopefully items such as protein structures, attack and defense mechanisms, immune response, etc. do prove useful for other problems which will inevitably occur in the future. Cheers Edit:spelling
