The cars with Michelin tires all refused to race.- only the Bridgestone clad cars participated. The Michelin tires were not holding up to the speed and resulting heat generated in the final turn before the grandstand and were blowing. It was a fiasco and the fans got ripped off. This year will be interesting.   Rick, I agree absolutely with you about that race. My own opinion was that the race should have been called off completely and the fans given their money back. At the end of the day, those guys were the ones who risk their lives when driving those fast cars and if they felt it was too dangerous to drive with those tyres, I have to side with them. Geez, fancing driving around with yer BTM an inch off the road. O.k. two inches. I drive a three wheeled car??????? called a Reliant and my BTM is only a couple more inches higher. When I get around to it, I'll post a photo in the BBT photo forum. No laughing though.It really is great to come over here for decent chit chat. I get far too many headaches in our stats Forums with all the debauchery that goes on. (Nice tho.) |

I agree, but I live close and have tickets so here's what happened... after the fiasco... I was offered a refund, or free tickets plus Qualification tickets for this year, or upgraded tickets with a small fee. These offers came from IMS not F1... so they made good on the deal from last year, I took the same seats and Qualification tickets. The upgrade tickets would have had a lesser view of the race... go figure that. So I have Tickets for this year, but may not use them, and not for the last years race reason..... I think that if this years race had any issues at all..... that will be the end for F1 in the US for a number of years. The contract with IMS is over after this race, and Tony George is not going to allow what happened last year to happen at his track again. Also F1 was gaining a foot hold in the US, but most of that has turned to sour grapes now.... I know most hard core F1 fans will say so what... but it was F1's idea to get a foot hold in the US...... in anycase I'm a fan and have been for years, and enjoy going to practice and the race... but the bigger question is will the foregn fans continue to come to the race... Yikes a sermon...... anyway... I have room so ya'll are welcome to come of a visit. Rick |

Rick,
While I may not be the biggest fan of Tony George and Bernie Ecclestone, I have to give credit to Tony and IMS for trying to make good by the fans who were still left with lost vacation time, hotel, and air fare. I hope Tony took it out of Bernie's check. (sorry BBT for the OT post, consider it a friendly bump) |
