Re: Hardware Recovery Updates (Updated March 31, 2023)

My tasks uploaded some time ago, and I just reported them now. No new tasks yet though. But at least BOINC at WCG is back and seems to do its thing. Since everybody now is asking for tasks, I do not expect to get many, if any tasks, until things calm down a bit.

I just hope the system can hold up, and don't crash and burn, due to this extreme demand from everyone.

To WCG staff:
It sure is satisfying to see uploads, downloads and crunching resuming!
Your efforts ARE appreciated!

Re: Hardware Recovery Updates (Updated March 31, 2023)

Thank you all and thank you bfmorse - indeed - it took us much longer with multiple failures - but the new storage should hold better.
Hopefully in a day or two - we will be able to share another news - which would help our DB server performance (and reliability). But we were asked to wait until it is operational.

thank you all for the support

igor

Re: Hardware Recovery Updates (Updated March 31, 2023)

Yes, thnakj you Igor (and all those who've also helped wiht the progress so far - let's hope that thngs continue in a positive direction for a very long time).

One of my computers has been fortunate to downlaod and start crunching again, but the other is still awaiting, patiently, for it's turn to start getting it's CPU's 'warm' again biggrin

Edit: Just remembered, the computer that has received WU's, is configured to crunch OPN, whilst the other WAS configured for ARP & MCM - now, I've just thrown OPN into the mix, so hopefully...

Edit#2: Opening up my 'other' computer to OPN seemed to work - albeit, I had to clear my local cache - forcing a server update, before it picked up the change to my profile.

Edit#3: I was just so over joyed at receiving some WU's, that I didn't actually notice that they were infact MCM resends (and not OPN's which I originally thought) biggrin

Re: Hardware Recovery Updates (Updated March 31, 2023)

Thank you Grumpy Swede -- indeed - new storage so far is really great - but the old servers remain a challenge -- hopefully though they can survive long enough for the switch.

My home devices picked up all the needed workload (OPN1 for now) - so hopefully all requests will be answered. OPN, MCM - then ARP1 and the new SCC tasks. HSTB remains on science pause -

thank you
igor

So there are no tasks for NVIDA GPU I guess.

I put my queue to 1 day extra to see, but with these messages I guess there is no work or limited work. Not a big deal, I run other projects as well. But now the RAC line will drop since your back online. I hate seeing lines drop.

Thank you, Prof. J and your team for bringing WCG back to life. I also look forward to the other news about improving performance. :) Some OPNG tasks in the future mix will be great as well!

Re: Hardware Recovery Updates (Updated March 31, 2023)

@Jurisica

One problem I just noticed: Profile changes in the Device management, does not carry through to BOINC, as they ususally are shown in the BOINC log, after an "Update" request. I have done a few changes now, after the system came back online.

As of now, the log only shows my last change before this long outage:
World Community Grid	2023-04-03 00:05:23	General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 16-Mar-2023 19:48:01)

Maybe the system just have to catch up some more, before those changes are shown in the BOINC log, and also obeyed, which they are not now.

Re: Hardware Recovery Updates (Updated March 31, 2023)

thank you - will discuss with the team tomorrow - we will be watching how the dependencies across the system and databases sync - some of it is for sure just time it requires to trickle down.

thank you
