The MCM team?s research into lung cancer biomarkers has identified 26 genes that are present with top scores across all the signature sizes considered. This update focuses on VAMP1, a gene linked to patient survival and differentially expressed in normal lung compared to lung cancer.

Thanks for the update. Thanks for writing it in a way a non-med person can understand. Makes me feel good for helping the project. Looking forward to earning my 1 year badge on the project.

Thank you for this, I love seeing all the WCG updates recently and loved your presentation at the BOINC workshop. So many BOINC projects provide little to no updates on their work, it's so satisfying to be able to point to something and say look what we did!
Looking forward to continuing to crunch WCG :). |

I try not to get too excited about results from WCG research teams so that I keep them in perspective of the (likely) years of ongoing research needed until we see results (diagnostics and therapeutics) for the general population, but this is really something.
----------------------------------------For me, the holy grail of cancer research isn't a "cure" (we'd be much better off drastically reducing the amount of chemicals, combustion products, and other particulates we come into contact with on a daily basis), rather a simple and cheap diagnostic test so that we can catch most (or all!) cancers early when outcomes are better and treatment is far less expensive. It looks like the MCM project is making good progress in this area. Thrilled to have been a small part of it! |
