Step by Step Installation on Fedora 4, with SSH

I have a p4 2.8ghz with 1gb of RAM running at the datacenter. I would be very interested in running the World Community Grid linux client.

I do not have any GUI on this machine. And I access it via SSH, so the only thing I can do is limited to the command-line

Rebooting the server is not a problem, if that would be required.

Is there a guide (or can someone guide me) for a step by step installation on fedora 4 (http://fedora.redhat.com) given these limitations?

Your help is much appreciated.
This is a wonderful cause.

Re: Step by Step Installation on Fedora 4, with SSH

After you download the agent, the page which has the key also explains how to install it. You should be able to do this with just command line commands.

If you are unable to use a browser on the target machine, you can perform the download ona windows machine and move it over to your target linux machine.

Re: Step by Step Installation on Fedora 4, with SSH

FOBioPatel,

Please visit this page: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewDownload.do

Click on the download now button to get the Linux agent.

This displays a popup window allows you to download the Linux agent. Behind the popup window are detailed line by line instructions to get the command line version of the Linux agent running.

You can download Linux agent onto your local machine and transfer it to your Fedora system (if you are limited to ssh you should be able to transfer it via sftp).

let us know if you have further questions,
Kevin

Re: Getting an Error

Seems like the file
slots/0/init_data.xml

was missing for some reason. Did you try a project reset already?

...I do not know how to do a project reset. If you mean stopping and starting the client, then yes. I have done that, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I would be willing to share FTP information with anyone who may be able to look into this for me. I can also provide shell access for anyone who may need it to further troubleshoot.

All your help is very much appreciated.

Re: Getting an Error

Does the id that you are running BOINC under have permission to read/write to all of the directories under the BOINC directory that was created when you installed?

Re: Getting an Error

Yes. I run it in ROOT. It seems to have created the 0 and 1 directories in "slots" just fine, and they are populated with files.

That should mean it is able to write, right?
