Greetings folks
----------------------------------------Ive been running the agent for some time on a single processor machine at 1.7GHz. I now have a new dual processor machine (Pentium D 830) running at 3GHz. The Performance stats for the old machine show Processor as 112%, which is roughly consistant with 1.7/1.5 GHz. Agent will only use 1 of my new processors so should show 3.0/1.5 = 200%. But the new machine shows only 175%. My system reports 50% processor usage (the equivalent of 1 processor in full use), and this is actually shared nicely between the 2 processors. I think Agent is misinterpreting this as 50% of ONE processor, which is consistent with the figure of 175%. Any comments/suggestions please? Rob |

I think it has something todo with the benchmark that WCG does at the end of a WU. The benchmark apperently doesn't like prescot cores that much. My 3.4GHz Prescot is only slightly faster as my 2.8GHz northwood. It also doesn't take note about your dual core system.

Hello Dirk,
The CPU performance rating is calculated by a benchmark program. Another process can slow it down. If it never goes above 175%, then you might want to experiment with other benchmarks and use Throttle Watch to make sure that a faulty heat sink is not causing the CPU to overheat and slow down. |

OK. This is kind of complicated but here goes:
----------------------------------------First, only half of the dual core processor is used for the agent/Rosetta. So, only one core is involved at any one time while the other is either doing something else not involved with Rosetta or is idle. Now we are down to one core. It has HT Technology so XP is confused as he always has been thinking that this core has 2 processors which, of course it does not. So the CPU busy will be reported as 50% just as it has been reported on all single cores with HT. So that explains why the CPU busy indication is only about 50%. It is just as inaccurate in dual core machines as it is in single core HT Pentiums. Now, given all that, the dual cores do not score as highly as their single core Pentium cousins in the benchmarks run at the conclusion of each work unit. My dual core (3.2Ghz) reports a processor score of 183 while my single core 3.06 Ghz processor scores 207. I do not know the technical reasons for this dual core slowness (relative to its clock speed) but it seems to be consistent across all installations I know about. So, while this is disappointing and confusing, I don't think there is anything wrong with your installation. It sounds normal to me. |

Hey RT,
i bet that P4 3.06GHz you're talking about is one with a northwood core. Because i have a 3.4 GHz sinlge core prescott and it only gets a cpu score of 194 points. So i think it has more todo with the core version then dual core or single core. Greetings |

pconfig: You might very well be correct; I suspect you are but I don't know how to "see" which either of them are.
