"You are attached to this project twice. Please remove projects named World Community Grid, then add https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/"

Just saw this new message in BOINC Manager at Tue 12 Jul 2022 16:34:14 UTC:
Tue 12 Jul 2022 18:34:14 | World Community Grid | You are attached to this project twice. Please remove projects named World Community Grid, then add https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/

I'm not in a hurry to follow this directive as fast as I can, it's more like 'do we need to follow this advice sometime in the coming year?'.

Version information:
$ rpm -q boinc-manager.x86_64
boinc-manager-7.16.11-6.fc35.x86_64

I got this message too. I'm guessing it is just a result of a server issue, and that I don't need to do anything.

yup, same message over here. I only see one project, and deleted it, and then added it again -> same result.
I think I just sit this one out.

I've just posted something about this in the old URL thread in the Website Support forum as it appears this new message is a side-effect of the fix to get rid of that older message, and I noticed that Unixchick had flagged this issue there as well...

Cheers - Al.

Thank you, everyone, for letting us know about the attached-twice error message.

As alanb1951 deduced, that message resulted from our attempts to fix the old-URL error message. A "master url" parameter on our servers was set incorrectly. In a partial fix earlier today, we got the hostname right but the protocol wrong (HTTPS vs HTTP). The result was your experience today -- one unsettling message disappeared from the BOINC logs and another popped up.

You shouldn't see those particular messages again. Please let us know if you do.
Thank you all for your patience and eagerness to get crunching again.

Christian

Re: "You are attached to this project twice. Please remove projects named World Community Grid, then add https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/"

@Christian: We're back at HTTP now from HTTPS, and those of us who either have newer versions of BOINC, or manually changed to HTTPS, now got the message to change back to HTTP.
This project seems to have changed its URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/
The auto-adjust in newer clients does not work the other way around.

So, decide if you are going to use HTTP or HTTPS. In the automatically downloaded all_projects_list.xml file, in the BOINC Data folder/directory, WCG do have HTTPS both in the <url>, and <web_url> tags. That file is used by the client when you select a project to attach to, so I guess you should match it, or it should match your settings.

See:

<name>World Community Grid</name>
<id>22</id>
<url>https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/</url>
<web_url>https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/</web_url>

All I can say, is keep at it Christian, and good luck. smile
