i received a notice to delete my world community grid project and recreate it using a new url.
after doing that and checking the properties, it still shows the old url and ii'm not receiving any tasks URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ instead of what i pasted in: https://master.worldcommunitygrid.org/ |

I also did as they requested, and had the same result. I'm guessing they are trying to fix things, but there are still issues. I'm going to wait until something else changes on their end.

www.worldcommunitygrid.org and master.worldcommunitygrid.org point to the same IP 199.241.167.118
They need to fix DNS records instead of us removing and adding the project. |

I have not received a notice, but I detached and tried to reattach by changing the project URL to https://master.worldcommunitygrid.org/ . It would not reattach. I changed it to https://worldcommunitygrid.org and reattached successfully. Either way, the Event log still says "Scheduler request failed: HTTP service unavailable."
----------------------------------------Files such as file:///C:/ProgramData/BOINC/account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml and file:///C:/ProgramData/BOINC/account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml were unchanged after reattaching to https://worldcommunitygrid.org and still listed the http:// address versus https://. When I update the project, file:///C:/ProgramData/BOINC/sched_reply_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml says, "<html><body><h1>503 Service Unavailable</h1> No server is available to handle this request. </body></html>" (As an aside, I am now getting " World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU and Intel GPU.") ![]() [Edit 3 times, last edit by Vester at Jun 25, 2022 2:29:46 PM] |

I guess until they get serious about needing volunteers for research, we are going to have only a web page and some outdated forum info. Yeah!....🙄 3 Russian programmers, this would have been fixed in 24 hrs, AND tied into the pentagon. I'm hoping by Christmas, not hold my breath.

I am getting the same error notice:
25.06.2022 07:09:53 | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for NVIDIA GPU 25.06.2022 07:09:55 | World Community Grid | Scheduler request failed: HTTP service unavailable what I am wondering is: they took so much more time for testing and what not - and now, the project being online again, it still does not work :-( |

Well, if they're wanting the end users (i.e. us) to do anything over and above being patient, then they'll likely loose even more volunteers than this extra ordinarly long hiatus.
----------------------------------------We were giving the impression that we'd have been back up and running, way before now, and that when they'd finished doing whatever they were/are doing (goodness knows what/why they basically had to seemingly reinvent EVERYTHING - surely it could have been ported over to their environment a heck of a lot quicker and tweaked over time and in stages), everything would 'magically' start working again without any intervention from the end users. ![]() |

It would have been much easier to start WCG over with a clean, new, standard BOINC project. That would have precluded saving the statistics database and the original statistics format. I suggest that you read David P. Anderson's BOINC in Retrospect. World Community Grid evolved from the "for profit" United Devices (UD) project with the sponsorship of IBM and retained the statistics database and format. IBM added some curveballs of their own. Concerning "intervention of end users," this will be a temporary condition. I also suspect that many of us here currently are already beta testers. ![]() |

Supposedly, we just sit tight and work will arrive as soon as it is available. Getting the website back is progress.

---------------------------------------- I suggest that you read David P. Anderson's BOINC in Retrospect. World Community Grid evolved from the "for profit" United Devices (UD) project with the sponsorship of IBM and retained the statistics database and format. IBM added some curveballs of their own. I, like you, have been around WCG for a very long time (even back in the UD day) and although I don't know about your history, I worked for IBM for a number of years in my 30+ IT career, and I've never come across a scenario where someone/an organisation takes a working system (as clearly it was), and basically, it seems, reinvents it from the bottom up - taking such a long outage (4 months and counting, over the original estimate of 2). Then, to throw the 'potential' curveball that end users have to change some settings (when they were given the impression that "it'd all jump back to life" once back), takes it to another level.Concerning "intervention of end users," this will be a temporary condition. I also suspect that many of us here currently are already beta testers. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by gb009761 at Jun 28, 2022 5:02:56 AM] |
