Can we get the upper limit in the Project Limits in the profiles changed from 64 to 128? If one has a dual processor system with 2 64c/128t processors, that machine would have 256t to work with. Trying to limit some projects to half of the threads would require 128 WUs. Some would say to use the app_config file to limit the execution which would work for execution but not the download part due to the known error in the BOINC Client for those not on the LATEST release.
TIA |

Also consider having options based on number of cores, e.g.
----------------------------------------cores-1 (leave 1 free for other tasks) cores+1 (have 1 ready to go) cores*2 (have plenty ready to go) cores/2 (only half for this task type) Also consider combining with project selection (0 tasks = no) or at least bring them together and in the same order. Please increase the number of profiles available. Different machines have different capacities. Suggested names are Mobile, Tablet, Laptop & PC. in addition to existing.
Some projects cannot run on some devices and some GPUs do not work successfully. Mike |

Hi Mike,
----------------------------------------there is an unofficial way to create additional device profiles. I described it in the forum a couple of years ago (2019 or 2020). The only limitation is that additional device profiles can not be enrolled for beta. Cheers, Yves |

While changing the limits, please go ahead and bump the limit to 256 or 512. With the new EPYC Zen2 and Zen3 processors servers now come with 256 threads available. Will soon be bumping up against the 1000 WU BOINC client limit.

There is actually a limit which is about 720 I believe.
However, some people do not want to hoover up all the units going. Mike |

Also, with the broken client version and using an app_config, the client ignores the queue settings. |

Mike Not quite sure where that came from but that isn't the case for the projects here. WCG did have a limit set of 70 per thread at one time and that was great for machines with less than 16 threads. Once you get more than 16 threads, you will hit the client limit of 1000 runnable units first. The 70 per thread doesn't apply to any of my machines anymore as all are over 16 threads. |
