I like the new badges.
The art looks a lot cleaner, and I'm grateful to see a 200 year badge has been added. I was among those who suggested that a few years back. I also like how it reveals which contributors who already reached a MCM milestone rejected WCG's request to opt into MCM and instead badge hunted with low-priority OPN CPU work at the cost of throughput. Nowadays, if you let the system decide, the ratio of MCM to OPN is about 11:1. Even before the GPU project it was never 1:1. People care about badges - so much so they're willing to contribute substantially less if it means getting a bit more forum recognition. Let's design badges with that in mind. I suggest adding many incremental badges, especially for the longest running project, so that contributors do not feel like the next badge is out of reach. That last 100 year gap is a doozy. |

Please don't be quite so judgemental. I was able to get the 100 year badge for OPN before they reduced the priority of the CPU part. When they did I changed back to an MCM emphasis. I still do a small number of OPN just to keep my finger in the pie. Cheers

Instead of the improvements the badges stay dull not attractive lack of colors hyerogrics like.I dont like them like that
----------------------------------------And mainly the new WCG logo is quite invisible.May they a app on Appstore or other to design a better one? Thks to SNURK signatures we get some colors! ![]() |

I was able to get the 100 year badge for OPN before they reduced the priority of the CPU part. Congratulations, of course. Before the COVID GPU work arrived, you had halted your MCM contribution until your equivalent OPN milestone was earned. It goes to show that the badges do have an impact on donor behavior. When you ask contributors, they'll say it doesn't really matter to them. But we can see it does and change the incentives to change donation patterns. So however little it matters, it matters enough. Would you rather the website was designed without that uncomfortable knowledge? |

No, I did not halt my MCM contribution. I maintained it at a reduced level when I enabled OPN. Once the information arrived that the researchers were getting all the OPN units they needed, I re-allocated most of my resources back to MCM. I think both projects are worthy of my time, but I believe it was knreed who stated the OPN researchers were constrained in how many work units they could reasonably process. I believe he also stated MCM could use more crunching ( with no apparent cap on how many work units were available to be crunched.) Hence I changed my crunching to more MCM and less OPN. I would have done this with badges or no badges. Badges are fun, but in the big scheme of things they are not what motivated me to crunch. I am sure they are a motivating factor for some. Cheers

Your own personal choices are not on trial.
That's really not the point. |
