RAH out of work? I don't think that has ever happened excluding a time when they were changing hardware and had some other issues on a weekend. It is very rare (like dinosaur rare) to run out of work there. If your doing the stuff from RALPH then of course you will run out of work, but ROSETTA, hardly ever. Rosetta was out of work. See e.g. the following post from Grant (SSSF) on the Rosetta forum on 8 August: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thre...&postid=102362#102362 |

hmmm....very very odd.
That might explain the weirdness I am seeing. I am gone from home 12 or so hours a day. I come back home and have a quick look at BOINC and then get on with my night. I didn't look at RAH. Thanks for the heads up, think that explains things. Looks like a bad batch of tasks as there are complaints of errors. Something else I have seen before there. Anyway...closing out this thread. Thanks guys. |

The app_config.xml file goes in each project's folder and can limit by project and/or sub-project. Example for sidock below: <app_config> <app> <name>cmdock-boinc</name> <max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent> </app> <app> <name>cmdock-boinc-zip</name> <max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent> </app> <app> <name>cmdock-boinc-zcp</name> <max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent> </app> <project_max_concurrent>1</project_max_concurrent> </app_config> Paul. cmdock? but how is that WCG and all its projects? That's something else. |

AND....No matter what I do for settings on the webpage WCG on BOINC ignores them and takes all available cores other than the one allocated by BOINC for GPU.
I don't understand this! I say 6 and 60% but it does 15 and 100% I could say 2 and it would do 15! I save my preferences before I leave the page and yet when I come back to the page those settings are gone. I really don't get this. And....I can not use WCG (world community grid) as a project name, so in theory I would have to make a section in app_config for each project? Childhood cancer and the rest? That's nuts! |

To limit WCG place app_config.xml in the project folder for WCG, (on Linux /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org) with contents below:
----------------------------------------<app_config> <project_max_concurrent>1</project_max_concurrent> </app_config> Then tell BOINC to (re)read config file(s): BOINC Manager, options, Read Config Files. My previous post had an example from another project I run, sidock, which is also doing Covid research. Your issue with profile sounds like using a different name to the one you changed. Suggest make a profile change, update in BOINC and check which profile the update messages say is in use. (Whichever profile is in use any profile update results in a message). Also check not using local over-ride. Edited to add note to (re)read config files. Paul.
Paul.

Nice try, but BOINC ignored that app_config with no error messages.
I went into the web settings, changed things, made sure it was in home not default, closed BOINC and restarted, still same problem It ignores everything I do. |

I even altered default settings. Saved the changes, got this message: Your device profile has been successfully updated. Please note that your profile changes will be updated on the World Community Grid agent the next time the agent communicates with the World Community Grid servers.
But still BOINC ignores the changes and ignores the app_config, ignores the weight change to 80%, just ignores everything. |

ok..after playing around with all the various pages, I finally got the 'home' setting installed, but for now BOINC refuses to see it, I guess since there is work going on.
I have to go do a 10 hour shift, so I will not be back until this evening to check on things. Thanks for the help, but app_config is being ignored and until I can look tonight, other the weight % and changes to what projects I want to run, it is ignoring processor % and # changes. |

When you restarted Boinc did the log show that it had successfully read the app_config file? It should show Found app_config.xml with no error messages after it. |

Just checked, it did not read it.
I stopped the work, shut down the client and exited boinc and restarted, it still did not see it. No error messages. The file is named app_config.html so don't understand, unless being there is no project name it just ignores it? I deleted the home and work profiles and modified the default profile for 6 processors. Just restarted processing and once again my settings are ignored both in app_config and online. The only setting that did take effect is the project %. I removed Africa and one other and kept the covid and cancer projects. But it still wants 11 cores no matter what. |
