Had read a few months back that WCG intended to bring another climate-related project online. Can't remember exactly where I read it but I can remember that it was a reply by one of WCG's techs in an OPN-forum post. - I think I can remember that it was planned together with Emory University.
----------------------------------------Anyway, my questions: With the sparsity of HST work supply, the wrapping up of MIP and the intermittent hold on the SCC project as well, the grid currently supports computational aid well below its capacity. As of right now only 3 projects are in production: (i) MCM, (ii) OPN, and (iii) ARP. Four if you count (iv) HST as active albeit not supplying many with work. 1. Are any new projects in the pipeline or at least on the horizon? Any new potential partnerships with research teams emerging? 2. What is the scope/theme of new projects being targeted for future projects supported on WCG? 3. What about environmental/climate related projects that WCG announced back a few months? If "history" holds, WCG is not going to tell us anything about new projects.
----------------------------------------Regarding the climate project, this is from the research page: "Impact of climate change on public health (Emory University, USA) This project, which is anticipated to launch in 2021, will examine the impact of climate change on temperature and air pollution at local levels, helping researchers understand the impact of a changing climate on human health." The three climate projects were actually announced a few years back. ARP launched in late October 2019, the Emory project is set to be launched this year but the other one isn't going to launch since the principal researcher changed University. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 2 times, last edit by Falconet at Jun 10, 2021 12:18:00 PM] |

From early in 2020:
Hello everyone, A quick update on where we stand with the two remaining environmental/climate change projects. Emory University - The project will use a research application developed by the researchers at Emory University. While the Emory team continues their work on developing the scientific algorithms, we're in the process of putting in place the grant agreement with them. Once both activities are complete, we will start the work to integrate the research application into World Community Grid. Ideally, we would launch this project later in the year, but due to the pandemic, everything else is moving much more slowly. Far Eastern Federal University - One of the two principal investigators for this proposed project has moved to a new university in a different country. Far Eastern Federal University is not going forward with the project at this time. We'll update you once we begin onboarding the Emory project - in the meantime, we're focusing on the upcoming OpenPandemics project and our existing projects. Thanks for your support, Juan |

huh. I forgot about that update entity - thanks for bringing it back up!
----------------------------------------Hopefully Emory U can get it launched this year -- ![]() |

Interesting input from you all! Thanks for sharing...
----------------------------------------The feedback received regarding the prospective 2021 launch of the "Impact of climate change on public health" didn't sound very promising though. Let's hope for the best. ![]() AMD Ryzen 3700X @ 4.0 GHz / GTX1660S Intel i5-4278U CPU @ 2.60GHz |
