Thankyou for the update.

Thank you again for your impressive contributions to MIP! Thank you! I hope we can help you out on another project in the future sometime. ![]() |

Well, time to unselect MIP in all my profiles, to leave more workunits for fellow badge hunters :)

Great to hear that the advances in AI protein folding are relevant for this work so that you can complete it more quickly an efficiently.

It would be nice to hear from the WCG techs on what the wind down will look like from a WCG perspective. The researchers say they will end the project the end of June. Does that mean that is when the last batch will be created or have all the batches already been created? Is it possible that there will be work available after June 30 or will we be finishing up the last batches at the end of the month? What is the last batch number?

I think I'll get my five year badge by June 23 so I hope it holds out until then :)

Others may find the following articles useful given the tidbit in the announcement of "new protein folding techniques based on AI and deep learning".
----------------------------------------The researchers might be taking advantage of a development by DeepMind. AlphaFold: a solution to a 50-year-old grand challenge in biology Regarding impacts across the board to other projects, Folding@home apparently won't be going away anytime soon. Protein folding and related problems remain unsolved despite AlphaFold ![]() |

All the best to the team - hopefully this exciting technology can further accelerate your important work, benefiting everyone in the future.
----------------------------------------I do agree with other commenters however - it is sad to see another project wrap its time on the grid; hopefully as COVID continues to be fought, research money can again flow to other areas of important research, and more research projects can get started easier. On the WCG side, hopefully there are more worthwhile projects which can benefit from WCG's resources, in the works. ![]() |

Excellent! I love working myself out of a job when technological advances allow the work to be done cheaper and faster in other ways. That is what we are here for.
Also, I am having to cut back during the summer anyway, and would not be able to contribute much to MIP. This solves the problem in a most elegant fashion. Keep up the good work (inhouse). |
