Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Conducted my first observed "big GPU" test (dual GTX 1660 Ti). Even monitoring the transfer tab constantly and ensuring that there was always an active upload, by retrying when needed, it still didn't take long to reach

It confirms my previous observation that I can generate result files faster than WCG can accept them.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

So are the OPNG WU's going to keep coming after the 3-day stress test?
If they are, I'll go buy a better GPU :-)

Yes after this test it was said they will go back to the more conservative regime. GPU's are very expensive at the moment (Google 'chip shortage' for background) so you may want to reconsider, last year I bought my second RTX 2080 Super for around €500 which now costs around €1500... go figure.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

yep I'm in upload hell. Probably better to limit the number of GPU tasks to less than 50 per card

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Things are limping along well this morning. smile I'm still seeing lots of transient HTTP errors, but the work IS getting done and (eventually) makes it back.

I didn't run the retry script while I was asleep.

EDIT: Yow, maybe I should have run it. Lots of stuck transfers in my queue.
EDIT2: All the stuck transfers are uploads.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

If I only have one GPU, can I force it to run multiple OPNG tasks at the same time?
Currently it finishes one, and starts on the next.
I run Windows 10.

I'm a firm believer that crunchers should actually be SELLING their GPU's in this ridiculously priced GPU market. Now is not the time to buy a GPU.
I'm about to sell a card for MORE than I bought it new for in 2017!

Crazy. thinking

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Well, the kitties tell me that the upload server seems to be the weak link this morning. If those finally go through, kibble is being sent and downloads seem to be doing OK.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Well, one of the things the test makes evident: the main bottleneck clearly is the upload server :-(
