On 1 PC I have had no GPU units for several days while others get enough.

Same situation here: No Intel GPU work units for several days. Not many but some work units for NVIDIA GPU every day.
----------------------------------------There has been an issue for some GPU batches in last few days that led to much shorter runtime and invalid results. Should be fixed by now. [Edit 1 times, last edit by ve3fld at Apr 16, 2021 5:39:44 PM] |

I got only one invalid WU with a batch number outside the range Uplinger mentioned as bad batches. But I don't get many WUs at all, so that is of no statistical significance, I'm afraid. What did you experience?

May have fixed it.
----------------------------------------I had edited app_config using BoincTasks, this was OK on other PCs but broke on this later BOINC. Now asking for GPU work. Will check in morning if it got any. Paul.

Hey Paul, you said:
BOINC 7.16.6 on Ubuntu 20.04. Regarding that system, do you have an iGPU (Integrated Graphics Processing Unit), on AMD or Intel, or do you have a separate GPU? I'm trying to get BOINC on an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U to work with the GPU, but it seems very hard to set it up in the right way, getting only 'No usable GPUs found': 17-Apr-2021 14:17:04 [---] OpenCL CPU: pthread-AMD Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon Graphics (OpenCL driver vendor: The pocl project, driver version 1.4, device version OpenCL 1.2 pocl HSTR: pthread-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-znver1) 17-Apr-2021 14:17:04 [---] No usable GPUs found 17-Apr-2021 14:17:04 [---] libc: Ubuntu GLIBC 2.31-0ubuntu9.2 version 2.31 17-Apr-2021 14:17:04 [---] Host name: 4700U-ubuntu 17-Apr-2021 14:17:04 [---] Processor: 8 AuthenticAMD AMD Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon Graphics [Family 23 Model 96 Stepping 1] $ clinfo -l Platform #0: Portable Computing Language `-- Device #0: pthread-AMD Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon Graphics Platform #1: AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing More detailed (output from clinfo without '-l'):

I would hazard a guess that you are running the default graphics provided by Ubuntu. In looking on the AMD site they don't have a separate Linux video driver for that, only a windows driver. For my linux boxes with an AMD video card I had to install the video driver from AMD for the specific version of Ubuntu to get opencl to work. My guess is that is your problem. Sorry to not have a clue how to get it working.

At first, it seems that Linux drivers are hard to find on the AMD site when you visit amd.com, but when you search for "Linux drivers", you'll get better results. Moreover, searching on Google for site:amd.com radeon software amdgpu ubuntu "20.40" will lead to the 20.40 version of AMDGPU that I installed. Compilation went fine (compatible with AMD Radeon™ RX Vega Series Graphics, I believe, for the 4700U). |
