Haven't received any new GPU tasks in over 2 hours on any of my machines. That never happens unless there is an issue somewhere.
----------------------------------------Anyone else notice no new tasks sent in a while? Of course, if there was a Server Status page this would be much easier to see what is happening! |

In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

Would be nice if someone from WCG could give an update or something so us Volunteers/Contributors to their project can know what's going on.

Yup, would be nice to know why there's almost no GPU tasks available.

Went from averaging 200 tasks per day to 73 yesterday to 30 today.

So...
----------------------------------------They have the time to read/moderate everyone of my posts (and I'll bet other people's too) before letting them go through, but not enough time to come here and give an update on work for the project? Seems WCG might be going downhill quickly now that IBM is no longer running it. And here I thought IBM was lackluster in communicating with volunteers over the years, but Krembil is giving them a run for the money on that regard. Funny that their slogan is "Relentless" under their name at the bottom of these pages lol! |

Well, since there are no GPU tasks available despite using a looping batch file, asking for work every 5 minutes, I'm just crunching 1 CPU tasks/day, just to keep my Current streak ticking up. WCG is my only project (not interested in any other project), so when I have crunched my daily 1 CPU task, I'm shutting down the cruncher.
Running CPU tasks compared to GPU tasks, is just a waste of energy and time IMHO. If/when GPU tasks becomes easier to get again, then and only then, will I crunch more hours again. |

Running CPU tasks compared to GPU tasks, is just a waste of energy and time IMHO I am not sure, but I am going to go out on a limb and posit that the CPU tasks do something a bit different then the GPU tasks. If they do the same thing only with the GPU tasks doing things in parallel and more efficiently, then I would agree with you. If the scientists could do all their research on GPU's I would think they would not even bother with CPU units. It would be nice to know if they are doing the same thing or if they are researching different strategies. Cheers

This has been reported somewhere else on the forum, but the science behind the CPU and GPU tasks is exactly the same. They are diverting the more complex tasks for GPUs.
Mapping Cancer Markers cannot be run on GPUs and is a fine use of your remaining CPU power. ARP has not been optimized to run on GPUs within World Community Grid, although some company in Colorado configured the underlying program behind it can run up to seven times faster on GPUs. When accepting all CPU tasks, MCM remains the majority. So most of your computational power won't be wasted. |
