The obvious solution, suggested many months ago, is to eliminate the CPU work units. There will still be more than enough GPU power to handle the work.
Some of the CPU users will switch to other WCG projects, a net gain for them of course, and some will drop out, reducing energy usage. And since the GPUs are more energy efficient than the CPUs, there is only a net gain. |

You should do a special high level post to alert users that you need us to shift some CPU processing to another project. Is there a way to set the preferences to turn Off CPU Covid Processing but still get GPU Covid processing AND get CPU Cancer Makers Processing? For now, I have added Cancer Makers into the mix.

from 3000 workunits/day to 1700 workunits/day per hour? per day? my poor laptop can get 100+ tasks per day few days ago so I think must be something wrong. [Edit 5 times, last edit by RockLr at Jun 11, 2021 4:41:52 AM] |

Yeah, pushing a notification though BOINC to resubscribe to all projects in anticipation of a CPU work shortage would be great.
You could also try adjusting the balance between MCM and OPN a lot harder. I'm subscribed to both and I'm still getting way, way too many superfluous OPN-CPU tasks. We're nowhere near making the CPU batches intermittent. Not that there's anything wrong with intermittent projects. Anything to keep the GPU tasks flowing, uninterrupted. I'm sure the other project's scientists will appreciate the boost to throughput. |

Thanks for the clear communication on the forum, Knreed. I had pulled myself out of the OPNG since others could do them faster and there was a shortage of them. I had no idea my CPU participation was also hindering others from getting tasks as they seemed so plentiful. It looks like the ARP is the best usage of my CPU time. I'll also continue to do MCM as well.

GPUs are 100% the way to go for any project that can take advantage of them; meanwhile, plenty of other projects - both in WCG and elsewhere - cannot, and they are worthy of your CPU time. |

Yup, running a CPU app, compared to a GPU app, is like throwing money out of the window. The GPU app, is hundreds of times more efficient than the CPU app.
I'm only interested in Open Pandemics, and getting OPNG now is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. So, I've stopped crunching, until there are more OPNG WU's available. |

Well, the kitties have chosen to continue to run covid research on their CPU alongside the GPU work.

Actually i would really like World Community Grid to increase GPU work units for Open Pandemics and start GPU work units for the other projects and any new projects that will come out in the future.
