Re: OpenPandemics GPU is LIVE!

Congratulations for launching the GPU app, it's not an easy job to complete, but here we are, with a working GPU app!

I am currently crunching with an AMD Ryzen 1700 and an AMD RX 580, it takes about 6 minutes and 30 seconds to complete a WU, and yeah GPU temperature is pretty low.

From what the Result Log a WU is made of Autodock Jobs, it starts, crunch a bit of the job on the CPU, then complete it on the GPU and then start the second job and so on, the Log clearly shows that:

INFO:[17:38:11] Start AutoDock for ZINC000414982907-ACR2.20_RX1--fr2266benz_002--CYS114.dpf(Job #0)...
OpenCL device: Ellesmere
INFO:[17:38:43] End AutoDock...
INFO:[17:38:43] Start AutoDock for ZINC000638936567-ACR2.7_RX1--fr2266benz_002--CYS114.dpf(Job #1)...
OpenCL device: Ellesmere
INFO:[17:38:51] End AutoDock...
INFO:[17:38:51] Start AutoDock for ZINC000423913578-ACR2.23_RX1--fr2266benz_002--CYS114.dpf(Job #2)...
OpenCL device: Ellesmere
INFO:[17:39:06] End AutoDock...

So it makes sense for the WU to not constantly use the GPU. Maybe eventually they will make it so more jobs are crunched concurrently, but the CPU part of them seems unavoidable, not everything runs on a GPU.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU is LIVE!

I wonder when they are going to integrate Mali GPU. I have 6 Android devices, all having Mali GPUs, and now I can only run WUs with CPUs. What a waste.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU is LIVE!

Thanks to the Techs and Researchers for getting the GPU tasks into production. It must have been a ton of work and I look forward to a more steady flow once the kinks are worked out.

I've added a GTX 1060 6GB to one of my hosts (Ubuntu 18/0.4 LTS) and in the last 24 hours have processed:

Valid: 154
Invalid: 19
Pending: 5
Too Late: 2

Edit: Each task takes about 97 seconds to process. Usually not even enough time for the fans to spin up on the GPU

AMD - 2600x, 2 x 2700, 2700x, 3900x, 3950x, 2 x 5900x, 5950x
Intel - E3-1231v3, 9900K
NVidia - GTX 1060 6GB, 1660ti, 1070ti; RTX 2060, 2060s, 2070a, 5 x 2070s

It appears that Mali supports OpenCL, so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, perhaps more so with ARM single-board computers. It also makes me interested in how something like an Nvidia Jetson Nano would fare.

Ugh. Never mind. OpenCL on Tegra chipsets is a non-starter, it's CUDA or nothing. Got to have that sweet, sweet vendor lock-in.

I can't complain about the Nvidia closed system. The Einstein gpu application works great on my Jetson Nano.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU is LIVE!

It's fine that there are many GPU Wu's to crunch, but it seems that the Download and Upload Servers are not able to handle the bigger amount of traffic.

I got on every Card stucked downloads and uploads.
Some of the WU's are in trial round 9 for uploading and every few minutes come new ones in the Upload state.

And actual only my slow Cards are crunching for WCG.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU is LIVE!

Wow, I was wondering why my lifetime credits tripled in the last few days...

Looking at the advanced view I see that it is running one task on my Radeon Vega eGPU and another on my Intel GPU. (This is on a Mac Mini.) Really neat.

My congratulations to the team that managed this feat.
