Hello.
I have an old PC with XP 32 bit installed. Plugged in an AMD Radeon HD 7450 (1GB dedicated RAM). It does support OpenCL. In Windows properties the chipset is "AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x677B). Installed latest Catalyst drivers from AMD website. The GPU is recognized and pilots well the monitor at 1440x900. When I launch Boinc Manager though its says no usable GPU... here is the log: BOINC LOG What can I do next ? Thanks, regards |

Hmm, first of all, there is currently no GPU work available at WCG.
----------------------------------------The OPN1 project will however have GPU work sometime in the future. What specific drivers did you install? I checked and the latest stable Catalyst drivers for Windows XP are the 14.4 version. Did you install another version? If you installed some other driver version, I suggest you uninstall that and try the 14.4 drivers. Using Windows 10, I have installed BOINC as a service which means BOINC cannot use the GPU because of Windows restrictions. When BOINC starts I see the following messages:
DESKTOP-0AUP2S8 4 05/11/2020 07:11:30 Running as a daemon (GPU computing disabled) 5 05/11/2020 07:11:30 Data directory: E:\BOINCdata\BOINC 6 05/11/2020 07:11:30 Running under account boinc_master 7 05/11/2020 07:11:30 No usable GPUs found |

Hello and thanks for the reply.
I installed the only drivers for Radeon HD 7450 on AMD support website which are exactly the 14.4 you mentioned. I read many things about SDK, XP, OpenCL, versions...and I don't think the NIC or the drivers are an issue. Read about somebody solving xp issues moving specific DLL files, mixing versions....I mean...looks a real mess with this old stuff. But if there is some diagnostics or some way to do it...let's try :-) Many thanks Ciao |

Hi, I did not install as a service. Have another two more recent PC with win10 which are GPU crunchers not using service install.
Thanks, ciao |

Honestly, I don't know.
----------------------------------------You could try completely uninstalling BOINC and reinstalling again. The BOINC website lists 7.14.2 as the last official build for Windows XP. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

OK...I guess XP is too old for this stuff.....how about trying a "lite" windows 7 installation ? Is there some win 7 build for older PCs ?
Tnx, ciao |

Is this machine a production machine?
It's really old but I have an old laptop, Intel Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz, which is slightly better than your Intel Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.80GHz and it does WCG but it's running Win 10. It just crunches WCG until it will die. If it is not a production machine, and I suspect it is not since you would consider a "lite" windows 7 installation, then how about a Xubuntu installation. I'm a Windows guy and found Xubuntu as easy to use as Windows to do WCG. I have 3 and this is all they do. They are all "old" machines. The only lite windows 7 would be a home or basic edition. Where would you find this? But none of this will solve your GPU problem. |

Thanks. I wanted windows because Linux will not use this GPU for Boinc. Windows should.
Whatever, it doesn't matter. I stopped searching. Bye |

I have a Radeon HD 7650A/7670A that seems to be ignored by both windows 10 and linux. Its an integrated card in an all-in-one. Perhaps it could be a related issue?
